The outspoken, often criticized Kristen Stewart has a fierce defender in Robert Pattinson, her Twilight Saga costar (and on-the-downlow love).

Stewart was recently excoriated for an interview with Britain's Elle, in which she likened her encounters with paparazzi to "being raped." After associations like RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) blasted the actress, 20, she issued an apology.

"None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first," Pattinson snipes to Entertainment Weekly.

"That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone."

With Stewart by his side during in the interview, the 24-year-old Brit adds angrily, "There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs."

After Pattinson's rant, Stewart muses: "see, if I said that? Crucifixion. You can say so much more than me. It's insane...you could say, 'I just took a s***on the Queen's face,' and people would be like, 'Oh, I love him! I love him!'"

Earlier in the sit-down, the actress says of the "rape" brouhaha, "I'm so sensitive about stuff like that...I used the wrong word. I should have said 'violated'."

"I probably shouldn't say this," she quips, "but I just feel like people got so excited once they saw that it was me. It was like, 'Sweet! Let's get her!' ...For the people to exploit it under the guise of being morally upstanding is disgusting -- and it embarrassed me because I was a part of it."

oh god, of course she didn't mean it literally! People get butt hurt so easily these days! i guess everyone who says "that's so gay" should get critizced by the gay and lesibian group thing, i don't even know the full name but people should seriously stop taking everything up the butt. it's not like she killed a puppy or something sheesh.

People are idiots, poor girl cant say anything without being criticized for it. Obvisiously she didnt mean it literally. Some people read too much into what celebrities say and try to start drama over it. Most of them are just so obsessed with Edward(Rob) or Jacob(Taylor) that they dont like her bc she gets to kiss them and be around them or whatever. Its kinda creepy especially outta adults. From kids and teenagers its more understandable but adults, not so much. Everyone needs to just leave her alone and get a life. I happen to think she is an amazing actress and seems very down to earth. Also, its called freedom of speech and she's allowed to have an opinion or did everyone forget about that one!

Here's the deal. Apologize and shut up, otherwise it is not an apology. Get it? got it? good. ps. Grow up. You are 20!!!

there are many dumb nitwits in the industry. actors and reporters alike.. you bet!! she doesn't know what she said. n ofcourse she doesn't know what it is like being RAPED!!! neither do I. lol

Give the girl a break. Obviously she didn't mean it LITERALLY, and when she realized she had upset some people she apologized and clarified her remark--a gracious and appropriate response. I'm no Twilight fan and can't begin to understand the whole obsession about it, but think she's right: for some reason ppl are out for her blood. Maybe it's because Twilight fans tend to be young girls (or confused women) who are so into the male characters they are seething with jealousy? It's just weird.

WHOA!! I think BOTH sides in all the sh*t is wrong! Stewart was wrong for phrasing it the way she did and everyone going off the deep in like they are is ridiculous. Someone needs to be the hero here. She apologized. Let it slide now. Pattinson is right though and doesn't deserve the beating for telling the truth.

okay, i think she's right; once people saw who said that quote, they were all out to get her. she apologized for not choosing a more appropriate word to express her feelings but K.Stew is still awesome!

For all you people who keep saying the word rape has more that one meaning, you should go to the source and see exactly what she said before you try to explain what Kristen. She said, "I feel like I am watching someone being raped"; this is definitely a sexual context. And Kristen, what a hypocrite!! She is flipping the bird and using foul language with the media, but when they respond in kind, then she gets all upset. Respect yourself in public and try to act like a decent person, they just might treat you beter.

By "little nerds sitting behind their computers, on their blogs," does he mean PEREZ HILTON??? LOL!!! I post on Perez's website usually several times a day! It's FUNNNN! :-D

whatever. ..awwe they make such a cute couple! :)

  • June 25, 2010 - 11:37am Mickey

This entire story is so ridiculous. Many people in and outside of the media use strong words to express how they feel and do not mean the literal meaning of the word. I have seen the phrase "Raped" as in "Raped by Society" to mean violated by society. It is not meant as a negative remark towards actual rape victims or to say that she felt the same as someone who has actually been raped.

  • June 25, 2010 - 9:13am GIRL NEXT DOOR

Carrie, get over yourself. She likened it to being rape, because she felt like they violated her privacy. Quit taking things so literally and get a life. She shouldn't have apologized.

As a Londoner it's so nice to know that she drags the Queen's name into her foul-mouthed, ignorant, cretinous Valley girl tirades. She's devoid of acting talent and has all the charisma of a fart. The fact that he is trying to defend her is nauseating. Let's hope she doesn't come over here any time soon as someone is bound to remind her of her 'defecating' remark. Her self-absorbed, self-satisfied attitude will disappear soon as no film that she appears in, apart from the Twit Saga, is going to be successful. She can disappear back down the rat-hole she crawled out of.

GO KRISTEN!!! Seriously, people really should just back off. I can't imagine how it would be for people to be following my every move or writing down my every word. Just because you're in the public spot light doesn't give anyone the right to hunt you down and terrorize you. Even celebrities need privacy. I agree with Kristen, I have seen how the Paparazzi harasses celebrities, I agree maybe "Rape" wasn't the right word - Violate, does sound a lot better. But HEY We do live in a land of free speech. I love Kristen Stewart's spunkiness.

  • June 24, 2010 - 11:42pm tulip

she apologized....what's up with him? does he think she didn't need to apologize...hope that isn't the case!

  • June 24, 2010 - 8:00pm Bad Apples

Kristen, this is why. This is why we hate you. You couldn't just apologize for your mistake and leave it at that. Nope. You couldn't just be a big girl about it. Uh-uh. You have to just keep whining and complaining, talking about how the world is unfair because you have no filter and because your lack of graciousness and gratitude leads you to complain non-stop, without thinking before you speak. She wonders aloud, ad nauseum, in every interview why we hate her. Because she's an insufferable b itch. Period.

  • June 24, 2010 - 7:54pm Sarah

oh for crying out loud. She wasnt attacking 'rape victims'. She was merely saying that she feels violated by the paparazzi hounding her every move and stupidly used the wrong word. Rob's merely standing up for his girlfriend and saying the media has made a mountain out of a molehill. Take it for what it is and stop making about something it clearly wasn't intended to be about. The fact remains, Kristen should've chose her words more carefully and she admitted that.

  • June 24, 2010 - 6:54pm abby

Just take into account she is young, naive, somewhat unappreciative for what she has, and that's why she speaks out of turn about things she knows nothing about. Such as Rape......

  • June 24, 2010 - 6:40pm kristin

is this b itch for real... get over yourself
