Twilight fans eager to support Robert Pattinson in the wake of Kristen Stewart‘s cheating scandal should prepare for a very different onscreen role.
Pattinson, 26, will re-emerge next week to begin promoting for the premiere of his new film, Cosmopolis, based on Don DeLillo‘s 2003 novel.
In just-released movie stills, Pattinson, who plays billionaire asset manager Eric Packer, holds a gun while standing in a dark Manhattan alley. In another intense shot, the actor, with a dirty face and clean white shirt, stands next to his graffitied limo while a man is apprehended and photographers capture the scene of the crime.
The David Cronenberg-directed film follows one day in Packer’s life as he rides across the city in a limo to get a haircut. But his trip turns upside down as he faces riots and sexual encounters along the way. Cosmopolis also stars Juliette Binoche, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Samantha Morton and Paul Giamatti.
Before the film opens in NYC and L.A. on Aug. 17, the actor is expected to attend the NYC premiere on Aug. 13 and appear in a live television interview on Good Morning America on Aug. 15.
A rep for Cosmopolis confirmed to Us Weekly that Pattinson’s GMA appearance will be live next Wednesday, which will be his first public interview after 22-year-old Stewart’s affair with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, 41.

After Us exclusively revealed photos of Stewart’s infidelity on July 24 from her marathon makeout session with Sanders on July 17, Pattinson has been hiding out at Reese Witherspoon‘s vacation home in Ojai, Calif.
On Saturday, Pattinson stepped out for the first time with a few friends at Deer Lodge, a country-western bar near Witherspoon’s home. The Twilight hunk “seemed to be having an amazing time” one eyewitness told Us, adding that he had “a few drinks and laughs” with his friends as live country music played. “He looked like a guy that was just trying to enjoy himself and get away . . . seems like a good kid!”
