Some much-needed good news. Married country group Rory + Joey are celebrating a Grammy nomination amid Joey Feek's cancer battle. Rory detailed what he did on Monday, Dec. 7, upon hearing that their song "If I Need You" earned a spot in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.
"..woke my bride up this morning with a baby in my arms and the news that our version of 'If I Needed You' was nominated for a Grammy," Rory, 49, wrote on the couple's official Facebook page. "As her excitement and tears flowed into mine. She said, 'How can that be?' The song received no radio airplay…no press… no critical acclaim… and the only music video we made for it was to celebrate the day our little Indiana was born."
He added: "God is so good. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
As previously reported, Joey, 40, has been battling terminal cervical cancer and is in hospice. She was diagnosed last year and explained that she decided to stop chemo.
The couple — who are parents to 21-month-old daughter Indiana — have been sharing health updates via Facebook. Last month, Joey said that she isn't afraid to die.
"I pray that one morning I just don’t wake up," she told The Tennessean at the time. "I don’t fear anything because I’m so close to God and we’ve talked about it so many times. I know he’s close. And I know he loves me. I’m really at peace. I still believe there’s healing in prayer."
For now, the couple are trying make each moment count. They shared their last dance together during the long Thanksgiving weekend. "A few days ago, the last day Joey walked, I took her in my arms in the living room and once more put her hand in mine and we danced," Rory recalled on Nov. 29. "Like dancing, she wants to do this right, or not at all. To share the good, the bad, and the beautiful."
