Ryan Seacrest Raps an R. Kelly Song on ‘American Idol’: See Jennifer Lopez’s Cute Reaction

He’s a free bird! Longtime American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, delivered a surprise performance on Thursday, February 18, and had the crowd (including judge Jennifer Lopez!) singing along to old-school R. Kelly.

The television personality, 41, spontaneously busted out into Kelly’s smash 2003 hit “Ignition” and had the crowd cheering. Lopez, smiling from her seat, nodded and sang along, and really got into the chorus with the “toot toot / beep beep!” lyric.

Seacrest didn’t want the attention on him for too long and ended his impromptu rhyme shortly.

Expect more fun from Seacrest this 15th and final season. The multi-hyphenate opened up to Us Weekly and other reporters at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, California, last month about the singing competition and how it changed his life over the course of the last 14 years.

“I was a local radio guy who wanted to be on broadcast television, and this was a big network show,” Seacrest recalled. “So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be on it. And the fact that it was live, initially, I was fearful of that, but it actually was probably a good thing because I was used to live broadcasting every day. So I was very happy to get the nod … I was just so excited to be there.”

One thing hasn’t changed. “I’m still trying to become cool,” Seacrest cracked at the TCAs, adding that he’ll likely lose his cool during the live series’ finale in April.

“I actually don’t know what to expect on that last night, in that last hour, in the last few moments of the series and the season. I know it will be emotional,” he explained. “I know it will be powerful, but what will we say? How will we handle it? I think it will just happen when we are there live.”
