Sandlot actor Tom Guiry, who played Scotty Smalls in the 1993 classic, is making headlines this week — and not because of the movie’s recent 20th anniversary reunion. Guiry, 31, was arrested at an airport in Houston, Tex., over the weekend after he allegedly head-butted a police officer, TMZ reports.
Law-enforcement sources told the site that Guiry was at Bush Intercontinental Airport when a United Airlines employee deemed him too drunk to board his plane. A cop was called to the scene to help deal with the former child star, who reportedly became belligerent.
TMZ says the officer offered Guiry two options: arrest for public intoxication, or a trip to Houston’s “sobering center.” The actor then allegedly threatened the officer before attempting to kick him in the face and head-butting him.
The cop in question suffered minor injuries, and Guiry was taken into custody and booked for felony assault. He was released later on $5,000 bail.
Guiry is most famous for his role in The Sandlot, but he has also appeared in films including Mystic River and Black Hawk Down. Recently, the cast of The Sandlot reunited in Salt Lake City to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary; Guiry was not present.
