Scarlett Johansson has yet to fulfill her life’s crowning achievement — at least, according to her 2-year-old daughter, Rose.
“Right now I think we both share the dream that I will someday be a Disney princess, but it’s probably not going to happen,” the Avengers star, married to Romain Dauriac, told The New York Times’ Turning Points magazine. “I’ve been asking for that job for the past 20 years, and nobody has booked me.”
If the call finally does come, Johansson, who is the highest grossing actress of all time, insists the royal mirror reality. “When you see films from 50 years ago, the characters reflected what people wanted to project to the world, which was very black-and-white and guarded, or idealistic or whatever,” the 32-year-old admitted.
“It’s not that way anymore,” she explained. “The films that have a better audience reaction now are the ones where the characters are flawed. And I think that’s why [The Avengers writer and director] Joss Whedon has been so successful in that realm, because he loves the flaws, he celebrates them. He likes to pick apart their weaknesses.”
For her part, Johansson celebrates the growing power of women. “We see more female directors, more women in various departments on set. If you looked around a film set even 10 years ago, it was basically a bunch of dudes; maybe in the wardrobe department or in the hair and makeup department there would be women. Now you see more female camera assistants, cinematographers, grips,” she told the magazine. “It’s nice to have a diverse group of people so that it doesn’t become so one-note — to have a female energy on set, to have different types of people and different vibes, and a more balanced creative environment.”
