For newly-single Seal, honesty really is the best policy.
When the 48-year-old performer and his wife of seven years Heidi Klum decided to end their marriage in January, the "Kiss From a Rose" singer made a conscious effort to be open with the couple's fans about the demise of their relationship.
"When you publicize your marriage as much as our marriage was publicized, when you renew wedding vows, when you do all those things...you're giving people a picture of an ideal relationship that people aspire to," Seal told Australia radio hosts Fifi and Jules Thursday.
Though fans may have been surprised when Seal embarked on a wide-ranging media tour almost immediately after announcing his split, the singer confirms his promotional duties unfortunately happened to coincide with his personal announcement.
"It's not like this [split] happened and I decided the next week to go on the show," Seal told Fifi and Jules, adding that many of his U.S. promotional duties were booked three months in advance.
Admittedly keeping particular details under wraps for the sake of his family -- including he and Klum's four children -- Seal hopes fans appreciate his openness.
"When it goes south, you can't all of a sudden take the philosophy of a monk and decide to go for a vow of silence," the singer -- who only just recently stopped wearing his wedding ring -- told the Australian radio hosts. "It doesn't really work like that."
"I respect my wife's decision not to talk about that, but I felt that people at least deserved some kind of explanation why the picture of the ideal wasn't what they thought it was," he said.
