Biden 2016? With the presidential race heating up for both Democrats and Republicans, all eyes are on current Vice President Joe Biden, whose potential candidacy has drummed up almost as many headlines as Hillary Clinton's and Bernie Sanders' actual campaigns.

On Monday, Oct. 19 — just days after the first Democratic presidential debate — the chatter about Biden, 72, reached a fever pitch, as Fox News White House correspondent Ed Henry tweeted that the VP was expected to officially throw his hat in the ring.

U.S. Rep. Brendan Doyle of Pennsylvania backed up Henry's claims, tweeting separately that he had a "very good source" confirming Biden's run. CNN reporter Dana Bash also cited a source saying that Biden associates were "setting up interviews for potential campaign staff positions."

Henry said that the announcement could come as soon as Saturday, when top Democrats including Clinton and Sanders head to Iowa for the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. Sources told MSNBC, meanwhile, that he could enter the race within 48 hours.

The former Delaware senator, for his part, has remained mum on his plans, and even downplayed the buzz when he appeared on Stephen Colbert's Late Show last month.

"I don't think any man or woman should run for president unless, number one, they know exactly why they would want to be president; and two, they can look at folks out there and say, 'I promise you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy, and my passion,'" he told the Comedy Central alum.

"I'd be lying if I said that I knew I was there," he continued, alluding to his grief over the recent death of his son, Beau. "Nobody has a right, in my view, to seek that office unless they are willing to give it 110 percent of who they are."
