Lauren Silverman's mom has a message for the haters who've slammed her daughter since Us Weekly first broke news that the 36-year-old is expecting a baby with Simon Cowell: Leave her alone.
"I'm here with her and she does nothing but take care of her child and she doesn't deserve all of this bad publicity," Carole Saland tells Us. "She's a nice girl from Miami Beach."
She added, "Things happen in life. [We are] living in 2013. Her marriage was not a marriage made in heaven and life goes on, people go on."
While Saland seems to be taking the pregnancy news in stride, the same can't be said for Lauren's estranged husband, real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, who happens to be close friends with the X Factor judge.
"Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," a source told Us. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."
On August 1, the New York Post revealed that Andrew quietly filed divorce papers in N.Y.C. two weeks ago, citing adultery and naming Cowell. 53, on the documents.
"It's really a signal to the spouse who cheated that the wronged spouse is very angry and that it's going to be a very nasty, scorched-earth, high-profile litigation," divorce attorney Martha Cohen Stine explained to the Post.
Andrew and Lauren share a 7-year-old son. A source tells Us that she is about 10 weeks pregnant with Cowell's first child.
