90s R&B Singer Arrested for Soliciting Prostitute

D'Angelo has hit a low note.
The 34-year-old R&B singer -- best known for his critically-praised 1995 debut Brown Sugar -- was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after allegedly offering an undercover policewoman $40 for oral sex in New York City's West Village neighborhood. The New York Post reports he also had $12,000 stashed in his SUV.

In a statement, D'Angelo (real name: Michael Archer) says he will plead not guilty.

Vowing to fight the charge, he said he hopes the public will "allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions."
