Sonny With a Chance Star Tiffany Thornton’s Husband Chris Carney Dead at 35

Gone too soon. Chris Carney, the husband of former Disney star Tiffany Thornton, died in a single-vehicle car accident in Hot Springs, Ark., on Friday, Dec. 4, THV11 reports. He was 35 years old.

Carney, who was himself a musician and a former reality TV star, was in the passenger seat of the car when it flew off the road during a sharp turn and slammed into a tree. His friend Ezekiel Blanton was behind the wheel. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities told THV11.

According to the Arkansas State Police, at least one of the men was ejected from the car upon impact.

Carney was the lead singer of The Prom Kings and was featured on the MTV show twentyfourseven. He was also the son of Hot Springs mayor Ruth Carney.

Thornton, who previously starred with Demi Lovato in Disney’s hit Sonny with a Chance, is currently a radio personality on KLAZ 105.9.

On Friday, the station released a statement via Facebook: “Our hearts are breaking at KLAZ and Noalmark Broadcasting. Our Tiffany Thornton’s husband died in an auto crash last night. Please send up your prayers for Tiffany and her family. She is loved by us and our many listeners.”

Thornton, 29, and Carney married in 2011 and have two young children together.

Prior to Carney’s death, Thornton had posted a tribute to a late friend of hers on Instagram, captioning a photo collage in touching remembrance of “one of the coolest people.”

“Reserve me a spot next to you in Heaven BB, I know I’ll see you there again one day,” she wrote. “Love you.”
