A contrite Spencer Pratt apologized via Twitter on Friday, February 19, after making an insensitive comment in a new interview.

During a chat with Vice's Broadly, the reality personality told writer Mitchell Sunderland: "[The Hills getting canceled] was our 9/11.” (The popular MTV series ran from 2006 to 2010.) The analogy immediately incited backlash, prompting the 32-year-old former reality star to own up to his insensitive comment on Friday afternoon.

Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, made their marks as villains on MTV's Laguna Beach spinoff series. The only thing that hasn't really changed since The Hills ended is, well, their romance, which is apparently thriving.

"I love Heidi because she's the most special angel I have ever come across," Pratt told Broadly in the piece. "Heidi is like the sunset."
