Steve Harvey Jokes About His Miss Universe Gaffe Ahead of Miss USA Pageant

A healthy dose of humor. Steve Harvey made fun of himself and his now-infamous Miss Universe gaffe in a funny video clip the Miss USA Twitter account shared on Saturday, June 4, just ahead of this year’s pageant.

In the clip, Harvey, 59, is prepping Terrence J. Jenkins for his hosting duties, which he will share with cohost Julianne Hough for the Miss USA pageant, airing on Sunday, June 5.

The comedian hands Jenkins, 34, a cue card and instructs the Think Like a Man actor to practice reading off the winner’s name.

“And the winner is … Miss Colombia?” Jenkins says before Harvey immediately swats the card out of his hand.

“What’d I just tell you? I said, ’Don’t say Miss Colombia,’” the talk show host admonished Jenkins. “I don’t care if they hand you a card. They handed me a card. I said, ‘When they hand you the card, don’t say Miss Colombia.’ Listen to me, Terrence. Don’t say it.”

Harvey came under fire last December after he mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the winner of the Miss Universe competition. Gutierrez received the sash, flowers and crown and had already walked down the runway before Harvey awkwardly confessed to his big mistake.

Harvey instead called out Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the winner, and Miss Universe 2014 had to remove the crown from Gutierrez’s head and place it on Wurtzbach’s.

In the weeks following, Harvey issued several apologies, both via social media and on his radio show.

“Did I make a mistake? Yes I did, wholeheartedly,” he admitted on his show in January. “And at this point in the game, I’m not in the finger-pointing business and rolling people under the bus. So, I did what I was trained to do by my father … You make a mistake and you own up to it. And I tried to fix it, I tried to fix it right there.”

The 2016 Miss USA pageant will air on Fox Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
