First day of school for Suri Cruise!

Earlier this week, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' five-year-old daughter was photographed leaving the New Leadership Academy in Calabasas, Calif.

PHOTOS: Suri's fabulous life

The private elementary school was founded in 2008 by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, close pals to Suri's famous parents.

Photos at the Daily Mail show Suri, clad in a navy blue dress, silver ballet slippers and a pink hairband, leaving the school with mom Holmes, 32.

Although tuition for the school is around $12,000 annually, many students receive financial assistance. The school has many ties to Scientology -- with numerous scientologists on its staff and among its teachers, and with the controversial religion's terminology peppering the website. For example, one of its methodologies is "Study Technology," which was developed by Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

But Pinkett-Smith told ABC News it wasn't quite that simple: "Study Technology is a secular methodology intended to help students better understand what is being studied and apply it to real life. NVLA integrates this methodology as a tool in instructional design by providing teachers the framework to design lessons and curriculum."

They are Scientologists. They and their kid to a Scientology school. This is a story? What's next, Catholic parent sends kid to Notre Dame? What a revelation.

Its called wanting too and knowing wrong and above all its NOT HER fault its the adults that know better. She will grow up and glam herself but they enjoy destoryng them young with the spotlite cameras makeup and gets worse she one day realize I got money too. Their world all become FAKE so I guess as long as you can make them I guess you will always have the right to destory. Being a parent is the most simple and rewarding for I am one too but 90% of parents are sloppy in parenting because its only about them first and thats why we have the kids we have..

C'mon it's never to early to start brainwashing! What does Lord Xenu say about his latest celebutante prodigy?

  • September 15, 2011 - 6:40am Rachelle McDonald

Nothing quite like brainwashing from birth onward. Scientology = Science Fiction, which needs to stay where it belongs... in the hands of proud nerds and geeks everywhere :cD Also, as per Andrea Dugger-Long's statement: sure, we all experimented with makeup, however Suri Cruise is being raised in the Scientology cradle, which means she is entitled to do anything she wants, anytime she wants. Experimenting with make-up is one thing, eating p3nis gummies, ice cream & pixie sticks for breakfast... whole other ballgame.

Katie is a hands on parent, and seems very loving. Suri is adorable.

  • September 14, 2011 - 9:15pm Dennis Leen

Study tech prepares you for brain washing. If you don't understand or don't agree with something, it's your fault, and you keep at it for hours and days until you agree. Never is the fault of the author, Therefore L Ron Hubbard got away with his nonsense gibberish. You cannot question that.

I am thinking that a lot of people commenting on here are a little hippicritical considering I am pretty sure when you were growing up you put lipstick, every little girl at some point as put lipsick on..geez and as for her dress being to short..lol seriously??? I think she is cute..

  • September 14, 2011 - 6:35pm Anne McGill

The picture accompanying this article is not from her first day of school. This picture is from her trip to NYC with Katie. I doubt that Katie will allow heels, lipstick and babydolls on a schooldays. At least I hope Katie will step up and be a parent and not just the lady that Suri dresses.
