Kailyn Lowry, Teen Mom 2 Star, Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder
Kailyn Lowry is coming clean about a major mental health issue. The Teen Mom 2 star, 20, revealed in an interview with online site Starcasm that she has recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
"My mom is bipolar and it turns out I am too," she told the site. The Whitehall, Penn. native said she first made the discovery over a series of counseling sessions she undertook after having a big argument with husband Javi Marroquin and his family.
The condition is characterized by extreme mood swings that range from high states of joy to deep depressions, and it's something for which Lowry said she will soon be taking medication.
She is mom to 3-year-old Isaac with ex-boyfriend Jo Rivera, who appeared in the first few seasons of the series.
Though Marroquin has since forgiven Lowry for butting heads with his family in the unnamed incident (the story will unfold in season four of the MTV reality show), Lowry opened up to Starcasm to apologize in advance for her words and actions.
"I just want to publicly apologize in advance to my fans," she told the site, "and even though Javi and I have moved on from it, I want to say I'm sorry again to him and his family for letting my emotions get the best of me. I know how humiliating that is for them and I'm humiliated myself."
The pair first announced their engagement via Twitter last September, and reportedly tied the knot that same month in a secret ceremony. Photos of the happy couple standing next to an SUV with the words "just married" on the rear window surfaced shortly afterward.
"They wanted to get married before Javi left for the Air Force," Lowry's friend told In Touch magazine of why the pair tied the knot so quickly.
