Well, that’s an interesting photo op. Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer’s ex-husband Jeremy Calvert took to Instagram on Tuesday, November 1, to share a photo of their 3-year-old daughter, Adalynn, posing with a large rifle.
“She said daddy, lets go hunting and shoot a coyote… lol,” the pipeline engineer — who officially divorced Messer, 24, in July 2015 — captioned the pic. “Better watch out boys she wont miss lol haha.”
Calvert, who seems to have expected backlash for posting the snap, assured his 306,000 followers that the weapon did not contain any bullets. “p.s. yes people its a gun and its also unloaded get over it….” he added. “#daddieshunter #mybaby.”
Regardless, many of the West Virginia native’s fans criticized him for letting his little girl put her hands on a gun.
“This is deeply troubling … this really saddened me. When did childhood stop meaning innocence?” one follower lamented. “Around guns there can be no innocence … for a small child this has such vast implications.”
“This is exactly what is wrong with America,” a disappointed fan wrote, while another sneered: “Letting ur 3 year old or how ever old she is hold a gun really now thats what i call bad parenting.”
However, some of Calvert’s fans were quick to come to his defense. “I’ve been shooting guns since I was 4 years old. My grandpa taught me. Does not make you a bad parent. Go whine somewhere else,” one supporter wrote, while another commented, “Don’t understand why people think guns lay around the house loaded…I’m sure he, like all responsible gun owners, haS it unloaded, safety on, locked in a safe. It’s not like it’s sitting on the couch with one in the chamber and a hair trigger.”
A source exclusively tells Us Weekly that Messer does not approve of Calvert’s controversial post. “Leah was horrified that he would post a picture like that,” the insider says. “She absolutely does not support a photograph like this of her daughter.”
Conversely, Messer has been focusing on Adalynn’s more age-appropriate milestones. The 16 & Pregnant alum — who also shares 6-year-old twins Aliannah and Aleeah with first ex-husband Corey Simms — revealed on October 18 that her youngest daughter has started preschool.
“My baby girl started school today. I was extremely proud of her!💕 Mommys #BigGirl now!” the reality personality wrote via Instagram, adding that she has plans to pursue higher education herself. “I always said I would wait until all my girls were in school and then I would go. It’s finally that time to finish what I want to pursue in my career and start the college life as a mom of 3.”
