After admitting he was "embarrassed" and "deeply sorry" for having affairs with several women, Tiger Woods stepped down from the podium and hugged his tearful mother Kutilda Friday at the PGA Tour's TPC Sawgrass clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Take a look back at how the Tiger Woods sex scandal began

His mother -- who barely looked at her son, 34, as he told reporters during his speech that he owes it to his family "to become a better person" -- appeared tense, with a pained, stoic expression on her face during the embrace. (Woods' father -- and golfing mentor -- Earl died in May 2006 after a long battle with prostate cancer.)

Friday's speech was the first time the troubled golfer spoke since news of his sex scandal broke in November.

"I said, 'I'm so proud of you. Never think you stand alone. Mom will always be there for you and I love you,'" according to ESPN.

Woods' wife Elin, 30, was noticeably absent -- but he was quick to defend her after reported surfaced that she abused him upon learning of his infidelity.

"Elin deserves praise, not blame," he said.

Of course his mommy is there for him. How else would she be able to have the lavish lifestyle she has? Without her son, she would be a nobody. She had the nerve to blame his wife for his infidelity and his downfall. She's just as much a piece of garbage as he is. And it's obvious that money does not buy class.

So ... how would she have felt if Elin were her daughter?

Tiger Woods is EVIL. He will burn in Hell for his sins.

All men should have his problems. Millions of dollars and women at the snap of a finger. With all the problems we face in life, I would hardly call this a problem.

Tiger is only human. If Mr. Bill Clinton can make his speech about his infidelity - Mr. Tiger Woods should be able to get on with his life after this speech. Don't drill on it; let it be and move on. Lesson learn - be a better person.

A mother will love you no matter what you do...that doesn't mean she isn't heartbroken knowing what a failure you are, or how much you've hurt people. Woods should thank God his mother was there for him. I'm still glad personally that Elin did not make an appearance at his press conference....I hope she continues to be graceful and strong and look after her own children which is what a mother does!
