Tom Hanks’ mother, Janet Marylyn Frager, has passed away, the two-time Oscar winner confirmed on his Instagram account on Tuesday, July 12. She was 84.
“This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives,” Hanks wrote alongside a stunning throwback photo of Frager. “Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom! Hanx.”
The actor’s wife, Rita Wilson, also paid tribute to her late mother-in-law.
“This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children,” Wilson captioned a recent-looking black-and-white photo of Hanks with Frager on Instagram. “Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now.”
Frager shared Tom, as well as three other children, Jim, Sandra and Larry, with her ex-husband, Amos Hanks. Tom’s father, Amos, and Frager divorced in 1960. Amos passed away in 1992.
Her passing comes just days after the Cast Away actor celebrated his 60th birthday on July 9.
During an April interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hanks said he planned on celebrating casually with a “delightful can of beer.”
