Vanessa Minnillo Talks "Elephant in the Room" Jessica Simpson

Newlywed deja vu!
When Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey agreed to have their July wedding filmed for their TLC reality special, the Wipeout host was well aware that people would be thinking of Lachey's first trip down the aisle to Jessica Simpson in 2002.

In a clip from Nick & Vanessa's Dream Wedding, which aired Saturday, the 30-year-old then bride-to-be addressed the inevitable comparisons between her nuptials to Lachey, 37, and his famously documented marriage to Simpson, 31, that ended in divorce in 2006. "To address the elephant in the room, yes, coincidentally at the same time our wedding his going his ex is actually also doing the beautiful thing of getting married herself," she said.

Simpson announced her engagement to Eric Johnson in Nov. 2010, just days after her ex-hubby shared his own good news. Minnillo mused, however, that Lachey and Simpson, 31, have both moved far beyond their Newlyweds days. "I think that she would probably pray as much as I do, that [we're allowed] to have our own moments," she said.

But The Sing-Off host was still touchy when it comes to comparisons between his new wife and his ex. "Jessica was so much more beautiful," a fan tweeted at him on Saturday. He snapped back: "You really are that dumb."
But another self-proclaimed fan of Lachey and Simpson as a couple disagreed. "It's not a competition, and the comparisons are very unfair to Vanessa," she said. Lachey appreciated the sentiment and thanked her for "being human."

I personally don't think Vanessa is beautiful. Jessica is very pretty. I don't think this wedding will last once Nick's money runs out. Sorry fans thats my opinion. And a white wedding dress? I'm sure she earned that.

If these commoners AKA non-celebrities are "comparing" between Jessica and Vanessa...well, they must have a preference to some race- Asian or White? @Heather Skye "elephant in the room" is just a term to discuss something uncomfortable..she was not dissing Jessica. We all have our own opinions but you shallow folk--I happen to think Vanessa is prettier than Jessica (who I also happen to think is pretty). For you mature commenters...we all know what really matters is that they love each other and wish them all the best. That goes for Jessica and Eric too.

Robbie Culley-Duncan, you have to understand that Jessica was twenty-two when they got married so it was to be expected that she still acted a bit childish. She can't have that held against her for her entire life. Vanessa acts more mature NOW because she's thirty something years old. Yes, it is unfair to compare the two. I am a huge Jessica fan and even I'm saying that. I don't particularly care for Vanessa (I haven't liked her since her TRL days-- before Nick and Jess divorced) but I think that if Nick is happy then that's what should matter here. I personally thought that both weddings were beautiful, I just happened to like his first wedding more. But that doesn't mean I don't think Vanessa isn't good for him. We have no idea what goes on behind closed doors so all of our biased opinions don't matter much. Let's not start the infinite long argument about who is better for him because we just do not know.
I don't see a comparison in the natural beauty (and brains) of Vanessa versus those of chicken of the sea Jessica. People who decide to postpone their wedding to lose weight for photographers aren't exactly starting life off on the best footing, assuming the marriage is about love and not media attention, something Jessica needs to survive. I'm very happy Nick has found real love with a real beauty. Congratulations to them both!
Why do people say that? that is so rude especially to his new wife. she is a really pretty woman i think they look adorable together. obviously Jessica is happy with the guy she is marrying and Nick is happy with Vanessa. Whether you believe his ex is better looking or not you still dont say that. people should know what is appropriate to say and what should be kept to themselves. I hope everything works out for the Lachey's and for Jessica and her fiance.

Ok you guys let's be honest here! It's all about the CONNECTION a couple have!! Yes, Jessica was way more gorgeous than Vanessa but seriously that was back when Nick and Jessica were married it's a whole different story now! I think Vanessa looks way more "presentable" and put together and I'm not even a fan of Vanessa, I'm more of a Jessica fan. But either way, that's not the point! Jessica didn't have the same level of personality to connect with Nick as to where Vanessa does. They compliment each other well.
I watched the wedding of Nick and Vanessa and i must say they are two of the most in love and beautiful couples i have seen. She is so much more mature than Jessica and isn't fake and he has finally found a soulmate. I just love these two. One of the best weddings yet
