He had the look.

As the world celebrates the life of the prolific Prince, who passed away on Thursday, April 21, at the age of 57, we’re reminded of the indelible impact that he had on music, film and, of course, fashion. The seven-time Grammy winner’s sartorial choices were just as splashy as his seemingly endless catalog of songs. From his very first TV appearance, where he dominated the stage in thigh-high boots and a zebra-print vest, to his last days of leisure suits and shorter-heel shoes, nothing will ever compare 2 Prince’s style. And while he didn’t necessarily birth the following trends, there’s no denying that his majesty purple-reigned over them in his own special way.

Prince adored his circular specs, which he sported in 1984’s Purple Rain, on the cover of 2014’s Art Official Age and during a number of live performances.

In his 1986 video for “Kiss,” Prince effortlessly persuaded a lover to give him some extra time … by baring his washboard abs in an above-the-bellybutton shirt underneath a tough leather jacket. He copied the look for live shows too.

The Purple One, known for his gender-fluid image, often wore frilly tops like the one above.

Booties

He knew how to get his kicks! Prince wore high-heel booties to give him a boost in height. Although he stood at just taller than 5 feet, his presence — on and off stage — was larger than life.
