If only she carried a book! Alicia Vikander inadvertently channeled a Disney princess while attending the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28 — Beauty and the Beast’s Belle, to be exact.
The Swedish actress, 27, who is nominated in the best supporting actress category for her work in The Danish Girl, walked the red carpet in a yellow Louis Vuitton dress. The ensemble looked awfully similar to the fictional character’s off-the-shoulder ball gown. Even more, Vikander wore her brunette locks in the same half-up hairstyle.
“Alicia Vikander is reminiscent of Disney’s Belle in custom Louis Vuitton. #Oscars,” one commenter tweeted. A second added: “Alicia Vikander is channeling Belle from Beauty and The Beast tonight and looks absolutely stunning!”
A third teased: “Belle, is that you? Alicia Vikander in this @LouisVuitton gown is effortless.”
Vikander, a front-runner in her category, made no mention of the comparison, but she did open up about her role in The Danish Girl and meeting her costar Eddie Redmayne at her audition. (Redmayne, who won the best actor Oscar last year for The Theory of Everything, is also nominated in the leading category this year for playing transgender artist Lili Elbe.)
“I was very nervous, because I loved the script and the part, and I thought he was an extraordinary actor,” Vikander told E! News’ Ryan Seacrest on Sunday night.
She added of attending the Oscars: “It feels so surreal. I have butterflies in my tummy.”
