Anna Wintour Doesn’t Take Her Signature Shades Off for Anything, Including the Tonys

Are Broadway’s brightest stars too bright for Anna Wintour? The Vogue editor-in-chief, 66, rocked her signature sunglasses throughout the Tony Awards 2016 in NYC on Sunday, June 12.

From the red carpet, where she posed with daughter Bee Shaffer, to inside the Beacon Theatre, where the show took place, Wintour never parted from her go-to shades. She even wore them as cameras followed host James Corden past her in the aisle at the start of the show.

Apart from her sunglasses, the First Monday in May star, who also donned shades during filming of the 2015 Oscars, wore a colorful Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown that featured watercolor floral patterns. She accessorized with a multicolored, bejeweled collar necklace. Her daughter matched her in an equally flowery gown, worn with black trim and paired with a fun salute to Broadway’s Hamilton musical, which took home 11 awards. The bespoke Edie Parker clutch had the play’s two main characters written on it in black: A. Ham on one side, and A. Burr on the other.

Wintour has sported the same hairstyle and signature shade combo since the ’90s, despite being responsible for changing the looks of many Hollywood stars — including Taylor Swift. “We very much wanted to give Taylor a new look. Make her into a rock ‘n’ roll chick,” the Vogue editor told Today in April. “We think she looks young and modern and different.”
