While most of Hollywood is still obsessed with braids, one trendsetting star busted out a fresh take on a classic style for a party on Tuesday night.
Nicole Richie sported a '60s-inspired high ponytail with eyebrow-skimming bangs at the launch of her pal Charlotte Ronson's new beauty line for Sephora in West Hollywood, Calif.
"This is a super cute, fast updo that anyone can do," says Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy Lecompte who created the look.
The key is to start with shiny, sleek hair, advises Lecompte. He applied Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray to sections of dry hair before smoothing them out with the FHI Platform Flat Iron.
Next, pull up a mohawk section of hair and clip out of the way. Gather the rest of the hair into a super high pony with two elastics at the crown of the head for extra volume. Release the mohawk section of the hair and lightly blast with a blow-dryer to smooth out any kinks. Lightly shake out the top section of the hair and let bangs (or face-framing pieces) fall forward. Then, separate the remaining hair into two sections on both sides of the head. Wrap the sections around the pony one at a time and secure with hair pins to hide the elastic.
The fashion designer, 29, paired her bombshell pony with a dark blue velvet Winter Kate dress and accessories from her Winter Kate and House of Harlow lines.
