Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, More Late-Night Hosts Respond to Paris Attack: “F–k These A–holes”

Late-night hosts including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and John Oliver traded their usual comedic punches to say eff you to ISIS following the Friday, Nov. 13, attacks in Paris, which left 129 dead and countless more injured.

Sunday and Monday evening, host after host offered their love and support to the City of Light and those affected by the attacks perpetrated by the terrorist group.

Oliver, for his part, didn’t censor his true feelings, and spewed profanities at the attackers during HBO’s Last Week Tonight. “F–k these a–holes,” he declared while discussing the vicious acts of war on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah addressed the situation somberly but left room for a bit of humor. While describing Parisians’ compassion in the aftermath of the tragedy, noting how some opened their homes to strangers and offered free taxi rides, he quipped: “To the people of France, we commend you. I will say you are ruining our cultural stereotypes, because the French are supposed to be cold and unwelcoming, and then you go and do these beautiful things. Who do we make jokes about now? Finland? Because we will. We will make jokes about Finland, if we have to.”

Late Show host Colbert, meanwhile, used his opening monologue to list some of the many gifts France has offered the U.S. throughout history, most notably the Statue of Liberty. “France gave America our enduring symbol of freedom,” he said, while a video of Lady Liberty flipping off ISIS played in the background.
