Dita Von Teese is on fire. And not just because she’s mad hot. The famous burlesque dancer, model, and actor is launching a sexy new lingerie and perfume collection on HSN.com this April. Ever wanted to rock that classic, Betty Paige pin-up look, but hate spending hours in thrift shops? Then this line is for you!
We talked to the jet-setting glamourpuss about feeling sexy, living your dream, and the most important beauty secret of all time.
You've always been closely linked to the fashion world, as a muse, a model, and now a designer. What inspired you to start your own lingerie line, the Von Follies? I originally started working at a lingerie store when I was 15, so my love of lingerie has always been very important to me. It’s actually a big reason why I started creating burlesque shows in the first place. When I was a very young girl, fantasizing about wearing lingerie, I just loved the idea of becoming a woman and having this moment of luxury and beauty that’s just for yourself.
That’s so cool that you worked in a lingerie store as a teen and now you have your own line. You did it! It’s pretty exciting.
It seems like a this new line is a natural step for you. [Laughs] Yeah, there’s no jeans line or anything.
How do you want women to feel when they’re wearing Von Follies? Confidence is a big thing. I want to teach women that the way to becoming naturally seductive and confident is by surrounding yourself with little bits of luxury and beauty in your everyday life. I never saved my lingerie for special occasions, I always loved being able to wear my most beautiful things every day. A lot of people throughout my adult life have asked me, "What are you so dressed up for? What’s the big occasion?" And I always say, "The occasion is life! And I’m happy to be living it!"

Do you have any tips for women about how to feel a little sexier? The most important quality of someone who is a great seductress is someone who makes it look effortless. You never want to look like you’re trying. Whether I’m onstage or with a man that I’m trying to seduce, the kiss of death is when you look like you’re making a big effort.
How do we do it in our everyday lives? I think the way to achieve casual sexiness is to practice it everyday. If you say, like, 'Oh, I really want to try that sexy 1940’s wave hairstyle and red lipstick,' don’t just do it on Saturday night. Practice it now, even though it’s Monday and you’re just going to work. Whatever makes you feel seductive, you should hone it immediately and practice it everyday. Seduction is an art that goes much deeper than what you put on. It’s about mystique and aura.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received? Use sunscreen! Take care of your skin.
