My, what a difference a few decades make!
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shared an epic throwback photo on Twitter on July 16 before showing off a sleek suited movie star look at the 2014 ESPYS in Los Angeles later that evening. “Fanny pack and lean take it to a whole other level.. #90sRock #WTF #BuffLesbian,” he captioned the pic, taken around 1997 just as he was gaining fame as a WWE wrestler.
The Hercules star rocks so many signature 90s styles that it would seem like overload even back then, but it totally works for the wrestler. Johnson, now 42, wears a black turtleneck, baggy jeans and a fanny pack (After all, where else would he stash his keys and wallet?). Because no man in the 90s would dare leave home without a chain or two, The Rock, sporting a Kid ‘n’ Play-inspired hairstyle, wears a bracelet and a necklace—worn over the turtleneck so it’s front and center.
Modern-day The Rock has embraced a more traditional look. At the ESPYS, the Pain & Gain actor looked dapper in a slate suit and striped tie. “‘Cause every girls crazy bout a sharp dressed man..’ #ESPYS2014 #LA #NoFannyPacks,” he tweeted with a pic of his look for the awards show.
In addition to earning 17 championships during his pro wrestling career, which ended in 2004, Johnson made his movie debut in 2002 with The Scorpion King and has since starred in Get Smart, Tooth Fairy, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6.
