In 2009, New York City's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Thursday kick-off was dubbed Fashion's Night Out by VOGUE editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Retailers in NYC would stay open past their normal hours and offer in-store events, no RSVP necessary, to help stimulate shopping in a struggling economy.
