Not all "pillow talk" is sexy and romantic.

On Monday, Joel Madden had a quiet hissy fit over a recent purchase made by Nicole Richie, his fashionista wife: $3,000 worth of pillows.

"Do you ever look at your credit card bill and ask your wife how the hell she could spend 3 thousand dollars on pillows? I do. PILLOWS," the Good Charlotte singer, 31, tweeted.

Fashion and jewelry designer (and the Beverly Hills-bred daughter of Lionel Richie) Richie, 29, whom he married last December, had a simple retort: "That's why I ignore your calls," she tweeted.

Continued Madden: "I mean, can't we just go to Target and get our pillows??? [Shaking My Head]."

But Madden (who's father to her daughter Harlow, 3, and son Sparrow, 19 months) claimed he won this battle.

"Needless to say, the pillows are going back to the expensive ass pillow store. Hope she likes the Target pillows I'm putting in their place!...Trust me the pillows were gone before i even tweeted!"

When a pal asked how a pillow could cost so much, Madden joked, "I was thinking they must be made from unicorn manes or some s***."

Not everybody was on his side, the rocker said. "Now i'm getting attacked by angry kids on Twitter, LOL!"

for being so self-righteous, will someone tell him his 1.99 pillows support some slave-labor factory in manila. it's his business what he does with his money, but it looks like he doesn't know anyway. if he knew anything about economics, he'd know how many good paying jobs he's killing just because he's cheap. i don't know how his girls in the maryland 'hood take being told what to do, but there isn't a 'married' girl in beverly hills i know who'll be told not to spend "practically nothing" on simple household items.

Yeah, it's lame to pay that for pillows. But hopefully he treats her like a partner and they talked about returning them first. Otherwise, he's just a bully.

pillows should cost atleast $10 bucks especially if your trying to buy those simple white pillows for sleep. the rest should be donated to japan if you were still gonna plan to waist $3000. i thought we had a bad economy wazz up with that?!..use it for those on need this is just too ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!1

Given she can afford to spend 3K on pillows, they should be able to donate tens of thousands to Japan aid efforts, or other worthwhile causes.

If I had $3,000 right now, it would go towards what is needed, not some friggin pillows, holy crap! Ridiculous how people waste money!

Haha. I love this story!! 1. That famous married couples argue about money (on a bigger scale, however) just like everyone else does. 2. That Joel Madden put his foot down and said "NO" and went to TARGET!!! That is awesome on so many levels! Take a clue from the hubby Nicole.

Rock on Joel! I hoped you used your Target RED Card because you save an additional 5% on all purchases.

  • March 10, 2011 - 4:43pm Jennifer Sommerio

  • March 10, 2011 - 2:34pm Bethany Tetzlaff

If I had enough money, I would buy 3,000.00 bed sheets... not pillows... the bed sheets have a better effect.

Nicole makes her own money, and she is an adult. If she wants to buy $3,000 in pillows then have fun and go shopping. He tweeted about it. That doesn't mean he yelled at her. Quit stirring it up US.

Go Joel! 3k on pillows is just beyond ridiculous!

  • March 10, 2011 - 11:39am Shannon Burmatoff

Yeah like you never bought something that was very pricey Joel

  • March 10, 2011 - 11:18am Andie Royster

BAAHAHAHAHAHA thats awesome. wish i had 3 grand to waste on some pillows....

  • March 10, 2011 - 11:11am Heather Riel Giamartino

This is the reason why this country is hated around the world!!!!! $3000 on pillows????? Really?

  • March 10, 2011 - 10:54am Bob Etier

At least show up the pillows!

  • March 10, 2011 - 10:31am Ashley Harrison

Unreal...Even if I had that kind of money, I dam sure wouldn't waste it on some dam pillows. Some people have no concept of saving for a rainy day, except for the likes of Warren Buffet, Carlos Slim, Bill Gates, MEGA rich, but still very conservative. I appreciate ppl like that!

Stars need to stop tweeting. It's embarassing.
