Terminally ill country star Joey Feek is wishing for a Christmas miracle. In a new blog post, her husband, Rory, writes that the Joey + Rory songstress hopes to live through the holiday and to celebrate her daughter Indiana’s 2nd birthday next February.
"Her friends gathered around her on the couch and she told them of her hope that she might be able to still be here for Christmas, or for Indiana's second birthday in February," Rory shared on their blog, This Life I Live, on Saturday, Nov. 14. He also praised their longtime friend and bus driver Russell, who has been helping to transport friends to visit with Joey.
“Joey’s hope never fades. No amount of pain or medicine can touch it. It runs too deep. It’s connected to her faith in God. And as she will tell you, God can do anything,” Rory added, along with a photo of Joey’s hands gathered with baby Indiana’s and their friends'.
On Wednesday, Nov. 18, Rory posted a video featuring a then-pregnant Joey to celebrate Indiana being 21 months old today. “We're going to sleep tonight remembering the morning we welcomed her into the world,” he shared. “We had no idea when we woke up that day what a gift God was about to give us.”
Joey is also stepmom to Rory’s teenage daughters, Heidi and Hopie, from a previous relationship. On Sunday, Nov. 15, Rory shared a photo of Joey in an embrace with all three of their daughters. "Our girls drove up here last night to spend more time with their mom and baby sister," he wrote alongside the photo on Facebook.
In the emotional blog post, Rory also noted that Joey has requested to be buried in their family cemetery. “A rough-cut wooden box with a cross on it was placed beneath the bay of the bus and brought up here because that’s what Joey wants,” he wrote, adding that she requested their good friend Thomas build it. “‘Simple, from wood at the farm,’ she said. ‘And find a good spot in the family cemetery in the field behind our house, where we put your mama’s ashes last year… with room enough beside my headstone for you to join me someday… in God’s time.’”
As previously reported, Joey, who was diagnosed with stage IV cervical cancer in 2014, decided to stop all treatments after her chemo was deemed ineffective. She’s currently living out her final days in hospice care. “Sometimes there just aren’t enough surgeries — or doctors — or chemotherapies — or prayers,” Rory previously wrote. “And you have to wipe the tears from your cheeks and say the words that you were hoping to never have to say … Enough.”
