Diamonds are a princess’ best friend! Kate Middleton wowed in a royal-blue dress while hosting SportsAid’s 40th-anniversary dinner at Kensington Palace in London on Thursday, June 9. But one accessory in her ensemble cost over $50,000.
To add a little sparkle to her trendy, cold-shoulder Roland Mouret Nansen evening gown, the Duchess of Cambridge, 34, wore a pair of Cartier Diamond ‘Trinity de Cartier’ Earrings in 18-karat gold. The jewels retail for a jaw-dropping $56,500 (though we found a pre-owned pair on beladora.com for $36,250 — what a steal!). The circle earrings include three intertwined hoops of pink, yellow and white gold, set with 8 carats of pavé Cartier diamonds.
The mother of Prince George, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 13 months, stunned in her formal outfit while posing with SportsAid’s ambassadors and young athletes, many of whom will be competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
SportsAid, which Middleton has been a patron of since 2013, helps aspiring athletes overcome financial stress and offers them motivation. Almost two-thirds of the 2012 British Olympic team were recipients of the organization’s support at one point in their careers.
“Some of you may know that I love sport,” Middleton, who attended the event with husband Prince William, shared in a speech. “I love cheering on teams and athletes that I am passionate about. I love the physical challenge sport presents and the mental strength it gives us all. And I love the way it so often brings people together to work as part of a team.”
