Katie Holmes raised eyebrows when she haphazardly hiked up the hemline of her floral Louis Vuitton frock for Variety’s Power of Women Luncheon in Beverly Hills Sept. 30.

“Bad choice,” Phillip Bloch, author of The Shopping Diet, sighed of Holmes’ wacky take on the designer dress. “The bottom looks like one person, and the top looks like another.”

It was an odd misstep for the stylish star, who loves clothes so much she started her own line, Holmes & Yang, with longtime stylist Jeanne Yang.

Holmes, 31, herself admits she shouldn’t DIY: “I’ve always loved fabrics . . . [but] I don’t sew very well,” she has said.

How to fix the floral fiasco?

“Adding the wider belt from the runway would have made it classier,” Bloch suggests. “Lose the tights, which are way too heavy for a soft, muted print.”

And as for the fact that it looks like a closet castoff from her fashionista daughter, Suri, 4?

It’s not too far-fetched: She’s Holmes’ top stylist! “She won’t let me leave unless I’m wearing what she wants,” Holmes has said of her tot. “And I want to make her happy!”

I think it is totally hot!

If Katie truly allows Suri to pick every outfit and accessory, then I understand why this dress looks so awful. On the other hand Tom runs her life, why can't Katie dress herself? Katie says she let's Suri pick her clothes because she wants to make Suri happy. What a way to screw up a kid. Suri will have a major problem when she finds out that other people I.e. Not Katie, will not care about what Suri likes and what she doesn't like. Katie needs to be a parent and stop trying to be a playmate.

Suri's parents are doing her no favors. She will grow up to be a nasty, spoiled b.i.t.c.h.

If KH is telling the truth in her quote about her daughter's dictation of her life, KH and TC are raising a monster. So much for Scientology's "be your child's best friend" motto.

It would be a cold day in hell before I would allow a 4 year old to dictate what I wear. What next? Will she tell her mom what movies are ok to be in too?

LOL, Tammy. Also, did she literally just tuck it up under her belt or something? Even the hem is lopsided! I would think she has the money to have a seamstress just shorten the dress. It probably would have taken no time at all. I know the word I'm using here is a bit melodramatic but the whole thing is a fashion travesty.

maybe Suri did it!! She does everything else!! LOL

Katie needs to step up and be the PARENT, Suri is the CHILD, treat her like one and tell her "NO, Mommy will dress herself." Her legs are also too chunky for that short of a dress. Dress looks like what a female Senior Citizen would purchase as curtains!!!

That dress is completely hideous. But I think Katie made it look a LITTLE better by making it shorter. But still a fugly dress.

It is an ugly dres but I do like Katie's version much better. The black tights make it fun. The other version of the dress looks like it belongs on an old lady.

One step closer to the trash can, what a ugly print!!!

This is what happens when you let your 4 year old dress you.

  • October 08, 2010 - 9:58am Heather Skye

What happened to her normally good fashion sense? The dress was beautiful before she ruined the hemline and put on those awful black stockings. She just looks silly now.

My posts are repetitive, because they weren't showing up.

  • October 08, 2010 - 9:53am Diane Stadtherr

Katie, I like you, but please remember WHO the parent is here. Suri should NOT be dressing you daily. Your a grown woman. I don't allow my 8 year old to dress me and I WAY older than you are.

  • October 08, 2010 - 9:51am Diane Stadtherr

    *wear* oops

  • October 08, 2010 - 9:50am Diane Stadtherr

Katie, I like you, but you need to remember WHO the parent is. Where what you want, and let Suri get over it. I don't allow my 8 year old to dress me every day.

Oh Please....the dress is ugly either way!

  • October 08, 2010 - 9:46am So Infamous
