Meet Kate and Pippa Middleton’s Hat Designer

Kate and Pippa Middleton

Forget Pippa in her body-conscious ivory Alexander McQueen dress. Between the whimsical feather and flowers accents and the gravity-defining sculptural shapes, it was the array of eye-catching hats that stole the spotlight at the royal wedding. And as a result, the world is totally fascinated with fascinators, specifically the elegant styles seen on the hat-loving Middleton sisters.

Two favorites, the pheasant feather and brown felt saucer-hat that Kate, 29, wore for her first public engagement in February and the bright pink-flowered headpiece Pippa, 27, sported at a friend’s wedding, were both designed by milliner Vivien Sheriff, who has also created hats for their mother Carole.

"Pippa likes bright, flashy colors -– purple, lime, pink, turquoise — those sort of colors," Sheriff tells Us Weekly. "The pieces that Kate has bought have often been monochrome, black and white. [Kate] chooses quite plain but beautifully made pieces, she doesn't want a lot of fluff."

And with a jam-packed schedule of public outings and glam parties, Sheriff says that she has gorgeous hats at the ready for both girls. "There are pieces that we've made for Kate that we'd love her to wear in the future. Her look is really quite tailored. We made another piece for Pippa that she’ll be wearing soon, maybe at the Ascot races in June."
