The Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala is to the fashion industry what the Academy Awards is to Hollywood. And the celebrities know to turn it out on the red carpet in some seriously show-stopping designer creations.
And while it's a big deal to get invited to the A-list affair even once, some stars have been lucky enough to attend several times.

For her first appearance in 2004, Scarlett Johansson chose one of her best looks to date: a bright yellow Calvin Klein gown with a cleavage-enhancing push-up neckline. Four years later, the then newly engaged actress wore a champagne strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress with a corset top and tulle skirt in 2008.

Never one to play it safe with her fashion choices, Rihanna rocked a daring Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo with puffy shoulders in 2009 and a skin-tight lace Stella McCartney dress (and Rapunzel-length red braid) in 2011.
