It’s not often that an actor is happy to learn his character is being killed off on a hit show, but Nashville alum Oliver Hudson certainly felt that way about the demise of his Jeff Fordham. The 39-year-old actor sat down with HuffPost Live on Wednesday, Nov. 18, to discuss his dearly departed character and why he wasn’t sad to say goodbye.
“Elation, honestly!” Hudson admitted when asked how he felt about Jeff’s untimely death. “Only for the reason that I knew that I had only four episodes left on Nashville because of Scream Queens. So I wanted to go out in a blaze of glory, so to speak. I got my wish.”
The scheming exec plummeted to his death while trying to save Hayden Panettiere’s Juliette Barnes on the Oct. 28 episode of the ABC hit.
“There was a redemptive quality to it,” the actor, who now plays college professor Wes Gardner on Fox’s Scream Queens, told HuffPost. “I’m sort of saving the star of the show as I sacrifice my body to the bottom of the sidewalk! And I was happy about it, honestly.”
One person who was perhaps not so thrilled about the character’s death? Hudson’s famous sister, Kate Hudson.
“I got a text from my sister, and her friend is filming her watching that scene, and Kate’s like, ‘Oh my god! Oh my god!’” the actor recalled. “And then I fall off the roof and she literally gets teary-eyed!”
Catch Oliver in his new role in Fox’s Scream Queens on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Nashville airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
