There are plenty of ways to help the victims and families of the Orlando nightclub shooting, including donating blood and money. But lifestyle blog Barstool Sports is trying to help by selling fashionable shirts.
The Together Orlando tanks and T-shirts, available for $25 at store.barstool.com, resemble the Orlando Magic basketball jerseys from the late 1980s and ’90s, with its italic script and blue, white and gray lettering. The left side of the tops feature an LGBT flag, while the right side has an American flag. Barstool Sports also noted in a June 12 tweet that all proceeds from the shirt will go to the victims’ families.
Barstool Sports, which is based in Milton, Massachusetts, isn’t a stranger to charitable causes. After the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, the company sold T-shirts that read “This Is Our Fucking City” and “Massachusetts Invented America” and raised $250,000 for victims and families affected by the attack. And when two New York City Police officers were murdered in 2014, they marketed NYPD T-shirts that read “New York’s Finest” on the back. That raised $104,000, which went to the officers’ families.
Barstool Sports isn’t the only apparel company selling their wares to raise money for the victims of the massacre at Pulse nightclub, which left 49 dead and another 53 injured.
Other stylish efforts include the #WeAreOrlando shirt from Booster, which is emblazoned with a rainbow American flag. Proceeds from the $25 tops will go to the LGBT Center of Central Florida. The $23 “Love Orlando” shirt, offered by Teespring, is raising funds for the same center. And rock band Beartooth is offering a $20 limited-edition shirt with their logo reworked in rainbow. Sales will be donated to the Pulse Victims Fund, which has already raised $3,898,987 of its $5 million goal.
