Leave it to Pharrell Williams to rock a pair of shorts at Hollywood's biggest and most formal night of the year. The "Get Lucky" singer, 40, made a bold fashion statement at the 2014 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, when he showed up at L.A.'s Dolby Theatre in a more casual take on the traditional tux.

Williams put his own spin on the "black tie" theme of the evening in knee-length shorts instead of slacks. He also went sockless, leaving his calves totally exposed.

The Grammy winner -- who brought his wife, Helen Lasichanh -- is at the Academy Awards to perform his Oscar-nominated song "Happy," from the animated movie Despicable Me 2. A choir of high-school students and 20 professional dancers are set to take the stage with him.

Of course, this isn't the first time Williams has made a splash on the red carpet. Earlier this year, he made headlines when he showed up at the 2014 Grammys in an oversized, meme-inspiring Vivienne Westwood hat, which he's now auctioning off for charity.
