Taking cues from Her Madgesty! Pia Mia is launching a digital docuseries with Material Girl inspired by Madonna’s iconic 1991 documentary, Truth or Dare, and Us Weekly has an exclusive first look.
In the sneak peek above, the 19-year-old singer — who was handpicked by the “Express Yourself” superstar to be Material Girl’s first-ever fashion director in April — opens up about how she is searching for her “one true love.”
“All my music is really about love and relationships and just the ups and downs of that,” the Guam native says as the camera shows her trying on various ensembles from Material Girl’s fall collection (which will be available this week exclusively at Macy’s and macys.com). “I think I just have this idea of a fairy-tale love and I’m constantly searching for it.”
Pia, who used to date producer Nic Nac and was recently linked to Justin Bieber, says that a starring role as Cinderella in a children’s play motivated her romantic pursuits.
“I found music through a play for Cinderella. I was Cinderella. The whole thing about Cinderella is she’s looking for her one true love and she finds him at the ball that she’s not supposed to be at,” the platinum-haired pop star continues in the clip. “Then they fell in love and it’s happily ever after. Like, that’s what I’m looking for.”
Just like Truth or Dare — which Pia has watched “a million times” — the “Do It Again” songstress’ docuseries will cover her personal life as well as her career. It will also lift the lid on the budding style icon’s new responsibilities bestowed upon her by the Queen of Pop.
“As the first fashion director, I’m basically putting my personal stamp on the clothes and looking at the line sheets and making the changes to pieces that have already been created before I got involved with the brand,” Pia told Us during a run-through of an upcoming Material Girl collection in June. “I’m choosing the photographers, the locations for the shoots, putting outfits together. I’m basically touching everything.”
Most recently, Pia pinned down the details for Material Girl’s Fall 2016 campaign, which was appropriately shot at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California.
“It’s really dope. All the rooms are really different and it’s really kitschy. One of my favorite pieces that we shot was this denim dress with cutout shoulders and it has a little tie in the back, so you can accentuate your waist as much as you want,” the fashion-forward musician said of the shoot, which she styled herself. “We also shot this really cute girly dress. It was like a ribbed gray dress with, again, cutouts in the shoulders and it had a skater vibe. And you pair it with these patent leather platform heels that are to die for, and wear them with little white bobby socks. It’s the cutest thing ever.”
