Bow down: 2014 is the year of Taylor Swift!
As the year in music draws to a close, Billboard magazine honored the hot pop star with a cover story, fittingly dubbing the chart-topper ‘Woman of the Year.’ On the cover shot by Miller Mobley, Swift sports clean makeup, her signature blonde bob has a loose wavy-effect, and a $675 lace dress by Calvin Rucker showcases her slender bod.
In the article, the singer addresses the doubt she incurred from her team and the music industry as a whole, after revealing her plan to leave country music to pursue a pop sound.
“Everyone, in and out of the music business, kept telling me that my opinion and my viewpoint was naive and overly optimistic — even my own label,” she said about the musical content of her album. “But when we got those first-day numbers in, all of a sudden, I didn’t look so naive anymore.”
As with her business relationships, Swift shared that she isn’t into forcing faux Hollywood bonds. The “Blank Space” crooner described her friendships with stars like Lena Dunham, Karlie Koss, and Lorde.
“I feel uncomfortable being the No. 1 priority in my friends’ lives — I want to be there to make their lives more fun, if they need to talk, to be there for spontaneous and exciting adventures, but I don’t want friends who don’t have a life outside of me,” Swift told the magazine.
Swift will be honored at the Women in Music event on Dec. 12 in New York City.
