Balloon Boy Mom Admits She Was Aware of Hoax

Saturday – October 24, 2009 – 11:24am

Mayumi Heene - whose 6-year-old-son Falcon was feared to have floated away on a "homemade flying saucer" last week in Colorado -- has admitted to authorities that she and husband, Richard, lied when they said the Oct. 15 incident was not a hoax.

Former Wife Swap star Mayumi, whose son was found hiding in the family's attic after an exhaustive search, told a Larimer County sheriff's investigator the fabricated story was planned in an effort to garner publicity.

Mayumi also said that she and Richard told their three boys to lie to investigators and members of the media.

See the day's top celeb news photos.

"Mayumi described that she and Richard Heene devised this hoax approximately two weeks earlier," investigator Robert Heffernan wrote in a sworn affidavit, released Friday. "The experimental flying saucer was specifically made to carry out this hoax."

In the days after his son's brief "disappearance," Richard Heene did the morning talk show circuit denying the publicity stunt. "Now I am starting to get a little ticked off because I am repetitively getting asked this in the last couple of interviews," he told NBC's Meredith Vieira. "What do I have to gain about this? I am not selling anything. I am not advertising anything."

Richard and Mayumi Heene may face felony charges for staging the helium-balloon disappearance of their son Falcon; the parents of three boys may also be charged by Social Services for conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

just think of the number of people who's flights were cancelled or delayed, due to the Colorado airport being shut down during the rescue attempt. How many of those people were trying to make it home in time for the birth of their child? Or get to their dying family member? Throw the book at these psychopaths, and take their children away from them! There has got to be at least ONE SANE relative who would be willing to raise them. These parents are a danger to their children in every way! So, so, sad!!

They need to pay a very large fine for that then. What a bunch of freakin morons. And to think that there are really missing kids out there that could have used that precious search time. Now there's another kid out there that has been sexually abused, killed, and then left in a ditch somewhere. Thanks a lot asses!

Both are in serious need of parental counselling, while the children are away some place safe. Those two are just duds.

We are rightfully all over the parents about this. But why does the media continue to publish photos of these two boys, even if their parents consent? Way to contribute to the problem.

I hope they do face charges for making a false police report. And they should have to pay the expenses that it cost to look for the boy that they knew was hiding out at his own home. Shame on the parents.

  • October 24, 2009 - 10:12pm I think BOTH parents should get jail time Says:

This witch of a mother is as bad or worse than the village idiot father. I equate her with a mother who helps the father of the kids, abuse the kids. On wife Swap, she was vicious to the other family, especially to the other family's children. Laughing at them and telling their parents that their kids aren't normal etc. Like the Heene kids are normal. She is evil, this Asian looking woman. Don't be fooled by her. I think she is the mastermind behind the village idiot husband of hers.

I think Falcon is a true victim of these imbasils. These people are, the father and the mother are aholes, even their stories don't make sense, Falcon as well as the two other kids will be traumatized for life, who knows what else goes on in that household.

I still believe that the parents may have given the boys something to knock him out, so he couldn't mess up in the next interview...
  • October 24, 2009 - 9:00pm anonymous Says:

Let's make a deal now that we won't watch whatever reality show comes out of this. Let's stop supporting this negligence of these kids. Remember what it was like to be a kid, we didn't know much and looked to our parents to guide us. The whole thing is sad. Let's raise our kids the best we can.
