Actor Charlie Sheen was formally charged in an Aspen court Monday for the Dec. 25 incident in which he allegedly attacked his wife Brooke Mueller, UsMagazine.com has learned.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Arnold Mordkin filed three counts against the actor: felony menacing, third-degree assault and criminal mischief. Sheen, 44, could face one to three years in prison if convicted for the menacing charge. (Third-degree assault and criminal mischief are both misdemeanors.) Sheen has not entered a plea for the charges.

In the same hearing, Judge James Boyd lifted a protective order preventing Sheen and his wife, 32, from communicating. The modification comes after the couple had mutually requested they be allowed contact in order to mend their marriage.

"They’re very much in love, and they want to try to work it out," Mueller's attorney Yale Galenter explained to Us in December.

Sheen's attorney Richie Cummins assured Judge Boyd that his client "has taken a number of steps" to work on his problems with anger management and alcohol.

At the end of the hearing, Sheen and Mueller got up and hugged each other warmly but left the courthouse separately.

In an interview after the hearing, Galanter said that Mueller "would like the charges to be dismissed and the case to be over...What happens after today is anyone's guess."

The couple, he said, would like to start living together again "right now."

The next court hearing is scheduled for March 15.

Run Charlie Run. You married another Denise Richards. She is after you for one thing and one thing only. And it's not in your pants. Maybe in your wallet. So Run Charlie Run

@Jen Charlie also has two little girls who he had with Denise Richards.

He could face 1 to 3 years if convicted huh? Yeah right! He'll get probation or have to pay a fine. If he ends up serving jail time it would only be a limited number of days anyway. If I were the judge I would have told Charlie he had to go to mandatory anger management classes in order to have the protective order lifted. For the sake of their two boys I hope they can work something out though.

We don't know what happened, so who are we to judge? I absolutely love his show (and I'm a 31 year old woman), it's a comedy. This political bullsh!t everyone spouts is why our world is in the shape it is in, not b/c of a comedy on TV. If they want to work it out, good for them. I'm sure all you people putting him down have prince charming relationships, right??

I was brushing my daughters teeth last night before she went to bed and in the background I heard the t.v going...I listened closer and I heard Charlies voice. I said to my husband..."Hon! What is on t.v?" He came out of the kitchen and said Two & a Half Men" and then laughed. I said "turn somehting else on"! He said "Why"? I said "I'm not helping his ratings"! My husband said "Oh they really don't keep track of everyone who watches it". I said "Oh but they do". My husband said "yeah they probably do and I don't want to watch this moron anyways". lol. I hope more people stop watc.hing his show.

he is disgusting. he is also a misogynist, and those dumb chicks out in lalaland and every where else need to wise up and give him a wide berth. his show denigrates women, cant believe the fem. movemt didnt have it taken off tv, but then, considering the rest of the swill being offered up for entertainment these days on the tube, in mags and the movies, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that it continues to be on. charlie needs to get in touch with his real self and stop taking his frustrations out on women, the coward.

To 9:39pm JLS Says: It's not like the DA forced his way into their home; Brooke made an emergency call because Charlie was allegedly out of control. Part of me wants to pray for this troubled pair. The other part of me feels Brooke's getting karma for badmouthing Denise and acting like it was impossible for Charlie to behave in an inappropriate fashion. 9:39pm JLS Says: This is the most irritating state in the US of A! You have a meddling out of control DA that is more into his ego and wants to be on tv trying this case than applying some reasonability with respect to the law. He's on some sort of epic control trip. Email him. I did. I don't want the DA messing in relationships like this one did! ! ! !
