Dr. Kevorkian: Michael Jackson "Got What He Wanted"

Thursday – September 03, 2009 – 9:02am

In his first national interview since being paroled, Dr. Jack Kevorkian defended Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been targeted in the manslaughter investigation into Michael Jackson's death.

Even though Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide, Kevorkian, 81, told Fox News' Neil Cavuto Wednesday that Murray did not commit murder by providing Jackson with lethal amounts of the anesthetic propofol. (Murray, who maintains his innocence, says on the morning of Jackson's June 25 death, he gave Jackson 25 milligrams of propofol diluted with lidocaine to keep him sedated -- after repeated demands from the singer.)

"I don't think he was malicious," Kevorkian said. "Murder is defined by forethought ...Did the doctor have forethought? I doubt it."

He added, "The patient got what he wanted. He is the one who said yes or no to take a drug."

That's the same mindset Kevorkian said he had when helping terminally ill patients die, which led to an eight-year prison sentence on second-degree murder charges.

"I have no regrets," said Kevorkian, who is now the subject of an upcoming HBO biopic, starring Al Pacino. "Everyone I helped welcomed death. I do what a physician should do -- what is best for the patient, period. If I did it with malice or forethought and without permission than I would be a murderer. But, they forgot the definition of murder when they criticized me; because it’s so negative, they win by fear."

See how Michael Jackson's face has changed

But he said he won't go back to "helping" people die now.

"Why should I go to prison again?" he told Cavuto. "I lost 1/10th of my life already in prison; I’m not going to lose the rest at this age."

thinking about it on BOTH sides, it is true, yes Mr. Kevorkian was stripped of his title of 'doctor' but thinking of what another person said here, emotionally, it is hard to watch someone to go through much pain and hard not to let them die peacefully... but then again, Mr. Kevorikan had to go to jail, because what he is doing is defying the law, and even TOLD the whole world that he did it.... so of course he gets caught adn sent to jail... there are people who... agree with him.. and others who disagree.. and people like me who remain nuetral.

Michael had lupus. He needed pain medication as it is very painful and causes insomnia. He needed help to get rest as lupus makes you very tired. I have patients come in my office with the same desease. A forty year old women just died from it and she never looked sick but she was in pain all the time. Most people would do anything to relieve it but he didn't want to die. He loved his children and life too much.

I just read an article on lupus which michael had. the author had lupus and he said you will take anything to relieve some of the pain. It also cause insomnia and hairloss and makes you very tired. instead of thinking MJ was just a drug addict all the drugs he used were for sleep or pain, nothing to make him high. I have a dislocated shoulder and the only way to fix it is surgery and Michael got this when he was arrested and his arm forced behind his back. This is a constant pain, I know, I have it. I'm sure he had injuries from performing. Do you not think you could go without taking something to help with the pain from all of this. The people Dr. K helped die may have wanted to die but Micheal wanted to live and was dealing with his pain and sleep loss the best he could. There is no cure for lupus and all the stress makes it worse and he had plenty of that. A 40 year old lady died from it that I know and she never looked sick but complained of the pain all the time. I thought she was just a complainer because she never looked sick and then she died, so this is a very serious desease.

replying to: "Dr. Jack Kevorkian is wonderful. If anyone out there has ever watched their loved cherished family member in severe terminal chronic pain, they'd wish they had someone like him. When to end one's own life SHOULD BE a PERSONAL CHOICE." It is utterly ridiculous and disgusting to look at the Jackson case as an assisted suicide.

Dr. Murray is a murderer he knows the LAW ............He will get what he has comming if not in this life in his next he did it for the money , hopfully he gose to jail befor he can spend it ......

Dr. Jack Kevorkian is wonderful. If anyone out there has ever watched their loved cherished family member in severe terminal chronic pain, they'd wish they had someone like him. When to end one's own life SHOULD BE a PERSONAL CHOICE. If one is suffering severely and cannot take care of theirself, then they ought to have the legal right to make that decison and have help when they need it. If you've never lived through this, you would not understand and would be judgemental. Do NOT judge until you're in that situation. I applaud Dr. Jack Kevorkian and my family could have really needed him several times.

So Kevorkian was never stripped of his title of doctor? If he thinks you should just give patients whatever they want, even if they have a condition that affects their mental state, what kind of doctor is he?!

People who are drug users know the risk of death when they begin taking the drugs. So, yeah maybe he wanted to sleep, maybe he wanted to die. Obviously he didn't care if he did die or he wouldn't have been a drug addict. No matter how much whining and accusing people are doing, it isn'g going to bring him back. He's dead and no one should be put in jail for it....Move on Jacksons and let Dr Murray move on as well...Let it go!!! Michael was the druggie not Dr Murray...Michael did wrong not Dr Murray.

Doctors don't do whatever they are asked for a reason. People aren't doctors and they don't know about chemicals and their dangers. His doctor can't just do whatever is asked, that's crazy.

So it's not the doctor's fault? He just had to give Jackson this inappropriate medication because Jackson "pestered" him? I've heard of doctors sticking together, but this is ridiculous.

To those of you who criticize~ go to foxnews.com and watch the entire interview. I watched the interview and this article definitely left a lot out. They took what Dr. Kevorkian said completely out of context. He did not say that Michael Jackson wanted to die. He said Michael Jackson wanted the medication. Go watch the interview, so you get the entire conversation, and then you'll get it.

NO Michael Jackson did NOT "get what he wanted" He wanted to SLEEP - not die. Thanks to "Doctor" Murray, he's dead. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that is what Michael wanted. For one thing, he'd have NEVER left his children. EVER.

Dr Kevorkian is a hero and I worship this man. He helped so many people and all he got was a prison term. I wish the US would recognize all this man stands for and someday finally accepts it

He is dead! Let him be dead! If anything, if he was so sick that he couldn't leave his room to eat with his children (according to his chef on the Today Show), he should have been in the hospital! That should have been his family putting him in the hospital! They dragged his death out for two and a half months. Not only are his kids in the spotlight, but they haven't had closure for way too long! It is just pathetic. So, his doctor gave him meds, he had over 20 aliases out there for prescriptions. You really think he wouldn't have had someone else get them for him? Come on people! I do agree with people saying drug dealers should be charged with murder too, because people may OD, if this doctor is getting charged! Does that mean it is a bartenders fault when someone CHOOSES to get behind the wheel and drive? I bartended and you can't keep track of who had what when there are 200 people there buying drinks for other people! MJ would have had someone else get him the drugs if this doctor didn't. He did it to himself, let it go. Either way, may he finally rest in peace!

Ole' doc is losing his mind! LOL! He doesn't even know if Murray is charged with murder or manslaughter. While murder is defined as having forethought, Murray was not charged with murder, he was charged with manslaughter. Manslaughter is defined as killing without forethought. The doc needs to read up before he speaks.

I agree with Dr. Kevorkian and I think it is a gross miscarriage of justice to have sentenced him for 10 years.

Who benefits from this hoax? Is Michael really dead? I think MJ realized "death" would provide as much money as a comeback would. Let's not push aside the notion that there could be a conspiracy to aid the real MJ to live life in privacy on money earned by his "death". Just my opinion, but I don't really believe he's dead. Has his family really spoken out about his death, and children have been smiling out in public, something doesn't add up?
  • September 03, 2009 - 7:34pm Anonymous Says:

This issue is wayyy bigger than Michael Jackson. The prosecution needs to make an example of this doctor because it is NOT ok to administer hospital anesthetics to patients outside of the office and doctors need to understand that there will be consequences from their actions...MJ has already experienced his own.
