I Can't Wait to See -- and Eat! -- My Sylvia Weinstock Cake

Monday – September 14, 2009 – 4:30pm

Simply put, we love cake. So Eric and I were completely prepared to go cake tasting, but we definitely were not aware of how special our cake tasting experience was to be. We met Sylvia Weinstock, who is known to have provided cakes for Oprah, Eddie Murphy, Mariah Carey and others, and there are no words to describe how creative she is and how awesome she is as what she does. She does not believe in sacrificing taste for looks, and that is obvious because her cakes are as beautiful as they are delicious. She doesn't use fondant, and all the flowers on her cake are edible. It is really amazing!

She brought out a platter that had about 13 fillings and about cake flavors. The fillings included coconut, key lime, hazelnut, mocha and the cakes included chocolate, almond, and carrot (to name a few). She had us taste the fillings and we could not pick a favorite. I tend to be drawn away from the fruity flavored fillings, but I am not exaggerating when I say that every single flavor was delicious. She then suggested several filling combinations paired with a cake flavor, and it was like nothing we had ever experienced. We decided on two tiers of white cake with raspberry and coconut filling and two tiers of chocolate with hazelnut and chocolate-mousse filling. Aside from the taste, she will be designing our cake (which retails for $4,000 -- or $27 per slice!) to include sugar flowers that match the flowers used to decorate our venue. She will also pipe a design on the side of the cake that resembles the laser-cut detail of my Vera Wang gown. I can't wait to see and eat the cake, only to save the top tier and eat it again a year later!

You and this "magazine" are both idiots if you think we care about your stupid wedding cake. Why don't you spend the money on something else. You'll just be divorced in 3 years anyway.
