John Travolta Testifies Bahamas Medic Threatened Him

Wednesday – September 30, 2009 – 1:10pm

John Travolta returned to the stands Wednesday morning in the Bahamas in the ongoing trial involving an alleged extortion plot after the death of his 16-year-old son Jett.

The actor, 56, told a court that former senator Pleasant Bridgewater and local paramedic Tarino Lightbourne demanded $25 million or they would sell stories to the news media suggesting he was at fault in Jett's death.

While he was never directly approached by Bridgewater or Lightbourne, Travolta said he learned that unless he handed over hush money, they would go to the press and "imply that the death of my son was intentional and I was culpable in some way," Travolta said. They planned to use a consent document that the actor initially signed refusing to have his son Jett sent to a local hospital.

Travolta testified last week that he signed the document because he initially wanted his son flown to Florida for treatment. But Jett, who had suffered a seizure at a family vacation home on Grand Bahama island, was taken instead to a local hospital, where he died on Jan. 2.

Lightbourne and Bridgewater have pleaded innocent.

The trial began Sept. 21 and is expected to last several weeks.

The Bahamas suck! Thieves, everyone is policitally corrupt -- stay away. Plenty of wonderful islands to visit that don't EXPLOIT the tourist industry. I HATED my visit there . . . would never go back. John Travolta's allegations don't surprise me. Sorry he and his wife have to re-live this agony.

My condolences to the Travolta family for having to relive their tragedy. The slimebags that did that deserve everything they get and more.

Those two men and that lawyer Bridgewater are very sick parasites that feed on the lame, and persons in distress. How could they perform such an act upon a person as good as John Travolta in his most crucial moments of his life. These accused must be brought to justice, and they must be punished severely for this criminal act. How dare they claim they are innocent of such disgusting behavior.

What slime the Bahamian officials are. I bet that's why Anna Nicole's lawyer 'friend' took her there--because the officials can be paid off and he could kill her there and get away with it.

Well, miss Anniebess....next time you think something is wrong with any jurisprudence, ask, was this in the U.S.A? because there are always different approaches, depending on the country. Not an expert....just saying. I too, have seen lots of grammatical errors, depending on who is doing the reporting, proving, that they think they are right on the money, so why bother with small details, like proof reading!

I can believe anything about sub-par medical care in the Bahamas. My wife developed a cyst while on vacation and saw a local doctor who turned out to be the son of the governor or some such thing. He lanced it somewhere nowhere near where he should have and she continued to get sicker until we returned to see our doctor in the states.

I like the way Travolta stood up to those two pieces of trash. Not only will they not get any money they should get a good prison sentence!

I agree, Jen. That must be so awful for them. Hopefully they receive a guilty verdict to the people who tried to extort them for money so they can move on with their lives and continue to try and heal

I would want my child flown to Florida too, Better Hospital's than the Bahamas. And remember the Bahamas's is right off Florida.

what are they nuts?john and kelly loves the kids.how could anybody think anything else?
  • September 30, 2009 - 2:58pm Jen Says:

I cannot imagine what this all has to be like for John and Kelly. Having to take the stand and relive your son's death has to be one of the hardest things a parent can go through. It just amazes me that there are people out there who try and capitalize on other people's trajedy. I pray that Joh and his family can finally find peace when this is all over with.

No, Chris C, nobody is forgetting that Travolta is still a Scientologist. It's just that nobody in their right mind cares. You are so clearly a mindless bigot, the more you say, the better Scientology sounds. But more importantly, if you have a scrap of decency left, take the argument somewhere else.

chris you are an idiot. why the he1l would they lie about being blackmailed?
  • September 30, 2009 - 2:40pm Anonymous Says:

whether Travolta is a scientologist or not is beside the point. even if he is somehow to blame for his son's death, no one has the right to demand money from him over the issue. if they really thought he was so damn guilty they would have turned over what proof they had to the authorities to prove child neglect and abuse. instead they were greedy and took something they could use out of context to feed that greed
  • September 30, 2009 - 2:33pm Missi Says:

Chris C....you're an idiot. What does he have to gain by fabricating this story? He doesn't already have enough to deal with after losing a child? Wow...that's all I can say.
  • September 30, 2009 - 2:29pm Anonymous Says:

Anyone who thinks Mr. Travolta injured his child on purpose or by accident is an idiot. Because he has a higher power that is different than some-he is accused of being guilty by association.(Chris C previous poster).I think he loved that boy beyond belief and these trolls were trying to take advantage of him.I hope they get the max penalty and Mr. Travolta and his family can finally give their son his long awaited peace in his death.
  • September 30, 2009 - 2:04pm Anonymous Says:

As if these poor folks don't have enough on their minds. I hope John and Kelly can work through this and find peace at some point.
  • September 30, 2009 - 2:04pm Chris C Says:

Well, I guess everyone seems to be forgetting that Travolta is still a Scientologist. They like to sue people to shut them up. It's been proven. It has also been proven that they falsify and plant evidence to support their lawsuits. I'm sorry, but I'll need more than a celebrity and a lawyer as proof that there was a conspiracy of blackmail. Not saying Travolta is lying, but saying when you ally yourself with a group known for telling lies, your credibility should take a hit.

I am so happy to hear that John and his wife are being assertive with this issue. I met them at an airport once, along with Ella Blue. What a very, very, loving family! I'm still praying from the state which is shaped like a "Mitten" Ella Blue! I'm praying for all of you still! Rose46wood@aol.com
