Jon Gosselin: I Try To Keep My Kids Away from the News

Tuesday – October 20, 2009 – 9:57am

Jon Gosselin is now asking for spiritual guidance.

With attorney Mike Heller at his side, the embattled dad, 32, attended a "Values to Heal America" event Sunday night at Manhattan's Central Synagogue -- and he had a question for panelists Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (once a TLC star), Nobel winner and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, Newark, N.J. mayor Corey Booker and Dr. Mehmet Oz.

"My question is, obviously I'm going through a divorce and it's pretty public," Gosselin (low-key in a muted checked shirt and grey corduroys) said into the microphone. "What are two or three values can I use to raise good kids?"

Wiesel implored the reality star "not to be a hypocrite. Children see hypocrisy and they don't respect it."

Oz added, "kids don't always do what their parents tell them to, but do they what their parents do. [Don't get] caught up in the Hollywood hype. This is your family, and your must care for them."

Later, an event attendee spoke with Gosselin, who gave an update on how his eight kids are handling the ongoing situation.  "I don't think they understand everything -- I try to keep them away from it," he was overheard saying. "They're my number one priority. It's just hard."

Usmagazine.com spoke to Rabbi Schmuley, he says found Gosselin "very genuine.  I believe he has his kids' best interests at heart. I know he is in a very difficult position -- he's doing his best to do the
right things moving forward."

One thing Hailey Glassman's boyfriend probably won't be doing? Converting to Judaism. "I'm Christian," he confirmed to another guest, noting he has no plans to switch faiths.

Hasn't Elie Wiesel suffered enough without having to endure the indignity of Jon Gosselin trying to use him to rehabilitate Gosselin's image. However, thank goodness, Wiesel rose to the occasion.

Ummm, why not just stop doing interviews EVERY WEEK and putting yourself on the cover of tabloids for money? Or mabey not date trashy 20 year old girls before your divorced? You can try to keep them away all you want but one day your kids are going to know every dirty detail of your divorce and they are going to be MORTIFIED at what a sleaze you really are.

About 5 of all these posts sound intelligent the rest of you sound like mouth breathers, why don't you go watch this moronic reality show some more so these lame people can make more money or go buy her books since you seem to look up to her *rolls eyes* and if any of you watch this that HAVE children... well that is just sad, instead of watching someone else live their life why don't YOU go LIVE yours? Honestly who cares? Why would you? The only thing I see from these people forced in my face by way of news and magazines (I will never watch this show, never have, never will) is that the poor kids are pushed into this freaky circus without any say while the parents make fools out of themselves and show just how low the American IQ is. Sad. I love how people post Joh would never, Kate would not like you are their best friends? Are you mental? Do you honestly think you KNOW these people from watching them on tv? lol wow

And to those who say "Oh Kate does the same thing" about the kids, no she does not. Jon stopped the show, using the children as pawns (read the article), and then sells pictures of them to other media outlets and let's cameras from OTHER TV shows follow him around so they can get coverage of the kids. So, TLC is detrimental to the kids, but every other media outlet isn't? Jon puts the "mental" in detrimental!

The sad thing is he didn't pull the kids off the show for their sake. He did it for himself and lied to everybody. KARMA!

He is not the best father, but at least, I am glad that he tries to pull off his kids from the Tv show. The kids won't have a normal childhood if the parents are still taking advantage of the fame and money behind the kids' back.
  • October 20, 2009 - 2:35pm bellaluna Says:

Jon should be ashamed of himself. I can't believe has the audacity to say the things he does. You can really tell his kids are his "number one priority." I think his penis, his "caught up in the Hollywood hype" lifestyle, and money are his "number one priorities." That's what his behaviour is showing, no matter what kind of lip-service he spouts.
  • October 20, 2009 - 2:27pm bellaluna Says:

And he tries to "keep his kids away from it." Well, no wonder! Jon's all over the news and tabloids, what with his affairs, his running mouth, his financial escapades, et al. If Jon's kids were his "number one priority" he wouldn't be doing the things he does.
  • October 20, 2009 - 2:26pm saraj Says:

Oh please, Jon is so worried about keeping his kids away from the news...Jon, man-up and keep your sorry a$$ out of the limelight. The judge tells you to stay away from cameras and reporters, but you continue to do things your way. Your a mess and a very poor excuse for a human being.

"....yes, while I'm riding in horse drawn carriages in Manhattan and making out with my girlfriend, I try my damndest to keep those 8 tots away from the news!! I try and try and try!!"
  • October 20, 2009 - 2:15pm bellaluna Says:

This man screams "HYPOCRITE!" NOW he's concerned about raising the kids with values?!? After he's spent most of this year sleeping around and flaunting it to any photographer who would take his picture and telling anyone who would listen how he loves his girlfriend more than he ever loved the mother of his children, whom he despises? This guy is a real piece of work!

At least Jon is trying to be a parent. Look at Kate. Trying to get a talk show and be anything other than a mother to her 8 kids.

Every action this man has taken, since his separation, screams "it is all about me!" Why is his lawyer with him??
