The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual awards telecast -- bestowing trophies for film and television -- hasn't had a host since 1995.

That's set to change on January 17, 2010, when Ricky Gervais will host the 67th annual Golden Globes Awards on NBC.
The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning Gervais, 48, is best known as the co-creator and star of the original, British version of The Office and recently co-starred with Jennifer Garner in The Invention of Lying (which he also co-directed).

"Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host," the British comic said in a press release. "I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don't turn down."

Golden Globe nominees will be announced Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 8 a.m. EST.
Arguably the second biggest awards show of the annual season, the Golden Globe Awards helps set the stage for the Academy Awards, which will air on March 7 of next year.
