Seacrest Gets Sanjaya'd (and Caught in a Love Triangle!)
Thursday March 29, 2007
![]() Frank Micelotta/Getty Images for FOX This was the first results show that we here at Usmagazine.com were really dreading. You know the feeling, Idol fans. The split-second each Wednesday before the results are read where you wonder: 'will tonight be the night where I start having trouble saying goodbye to the singers?' It's OK, America, we feel your pain. And while we were still reeling from Ryan Seacrest being caught between two women, he was able to offer a bit of levity at the top of the show by spoofing the always comical Sanjaya. In what had to be one of the most humorous moments in the show's history, Seacrest took the stage and announced, "I've been Sanjaya'd," prominently displaying his ponyhawk, a la Sanjaya Malakar. Thank you, Idol style gods, for cracking us up for a good twenty minutes. After our laughter subsided, it was time to face the real music as the first results were revealed. Blake, LaKisha, Melinda and Chris Richardson were safe - was there any doubt? - as Phil Stacey was relegated to the bottom three. Don't toy with our emotions, Idol! In true results show fashion, the verdict was put on hold to allow the week's mentor, Gwen Stefani, to perform her "Sweet Escape" tune. Perhaps it was our audio feed, but the normally sassy and chic Stefani sang in what we can only describe as a munchkin on helium sort of way. And those robotic Harajuku backup dancers didn't help either. However, we can only assume that Stefani's song will end up being leaps and bounds better than that of next week's mentor, uh, Tony Bennett. What is this - 1950? With minutes left in the broadcast, we learned that Phil would sing another day (phew!) while Haley - or "Stacey," as Seacrest called her - and Chris Sligh were left in the bottom two. Who did Simon think would be packing their bags? "I think it'll be 'bye-bye Curly," the Brit blabbed. Sadly, Simon was correct, and Sligh said goodbye, acknowledging that he had yet to make good on his pre-season promise to "make David Hasselhoff cry." Not on TV, anyway, but who knows how the Hoff handled himself in his own living room? Talk to Us: Did Chris deserve to get the Idol boot last night? Can't get enough Idol?
