Danica Patrick credits having the "right attitude" in helping her become the first female ever to win the Indy Japan 300.
"I grew up with never really using guys as a reference, using drivers as a reference, and if I wasn't fast enough, I wasn't fast enough," Patrick, 26, told the Associated Press.
"That was the most important thing."
Patrick finished 5.8594 seconds ahead of former Dancing With the Stars champ Helio Castroneves on the 1.5-mile oval at Sunday's race.
It was her 50th Indy Car race.
"It's a long time coming, finally," she said after the win. "I was managing to save fuel and keep the speed up and when I saw Helio I knew he was the one to beat.
"This is fabulous."
Patrick became the first female driver ever to lead the race at the 2005 Indy 500, where she ended up coming in at fourth place.
