Also, I must agree that Ledger's performance was absolutely superb and I really like the extremely deep philosophy that the character of the Joker went into. It is VERY relevant to this day in age where we no longer can trust the political and judicial system that we live in. To think we can is pure naivity. There is something very wrong with our country and they way we let businesses and corporate america control and run our country. Are we really in control anymore or are we just caught up in the illusion that we are in conrol? Who can we trust anymore. It's hard to say when over a third of the people in our country have been convicted of minor crimes, misdemeanors, etc. It kind of makes you wonder. Who are really the criminals and how many criminals out there work the system and never get caught. Hint Hint (look at the whole Bush administration for instance)It may be something definately worth looking into, especially if you find even some inkling of truth in what I say.

I had to reply to "Anonymous." Titanic is not just a "lame love story," it's a historical fact (something "Star Wars" and "Dark Knight" are not.) That is why it became the #1 ranking, because people had a real interest in it as part of our past. I love Star Wars (4,5,6) as much as the next guy, grew up on it, and The Dark Knight is a great piece of filmmaking, too. Someone here said it was "not better" than Titanic, but as good as, and I agree with that person. Heath Leger's death brought an "X-factor" to it and that has definitely increased the interests in seeing it. Sadly, it is as I heard one person say, "his last piece of work, ironically, would be the greatest of his life." True. It is a fitting tribute. NOW, if the "Academy" would be smart they'd give him a "nomination" (a nod, and deservedly so) acknowledging his great body of work (which includes "Brokeback Mountain," the film I first realised what a great actor Heath really was.) Whether he wins or not isn't my primary concern, it's in their hands - BUT, not to pay him this honor would be more criminal than anything Nolan could dream up in a future sequel.

I hate it when they rank these films by dollar amount. For once I'd like to see the numbers for actual ticket sales. Star Wars was relelased in 77 when we were paying 2 dollars a ticket to see movies.. Batman has tickets averaging 11 dollars apiece.. I think the ticket sales would be a more acurate way to rank a film's success.

I saw this movie for the second time last night in IMAX and it was just as amazing as the first time. Seriously the best movie.

I seen this movie for the 2nd time this past weekend.
It is def. my fave movie of all time.
The Joker is what steals the movie though, everyone did a good job at the acting in the movie, but I think he done the best out of everyone, and no i'm not just saying that because Heath Ledger is dead, I would say it even if he was still living, he did a very good job in this movie.

I think the title dark knight refers to the joker anyways, its just a more dramatic way to title the movie, entitling it "the joker" would've been dumb

as for ticket sales, i believe the comment where it says adjusted for inflation refers to the changing value of the dollar (i may be wrong) so technically it rates 49, i'm sure star wars and titantic would not be at the top of the list if we adjusted everything for inflation.

as for this film, i think ledger did a wonderful job and saved the film, people are so obsessed over his performance they're not noticing how crappy bale was as the batman (the voice entirely overdone) and how disjointed the plot was (what the hell happened with two-face?) it was like he was stuck in there at the last minute and the ending was far too 'sopranos' for me, the building of anticipation, promise for a sequel? no, he gets pushed off a building and dies...the end.

ledger is covering up nolan's bad film

Dark Knight better than Star Wars, give me a break!!! And if Ledger didn't die, I wonder if Dark Knight would have got all the pre-hype?! And Titanic? don't even get me started on that lame love story!

i think the "dark knight" title should be "The Joker" after all i think he's the hero for the sales and also for the movie i felt sorry for Batman..

The Dark Knight was incredible. The entire movie i watched for Heath Ledger. He is why the movie is such a success. Heath was a brilliant actor and i think this was his greatest role. Definitely better than Star Wars, maybe even as good as Titanic...but not better.

I think that batman was awesome. it tops starwars, but not titanic. that movie is a complete classic, as is gone with the wind. i think titanic is the best, but batman is way up there. i credit the dark knight's succes to heath ledger. (r.i.p.)

i love it "adjusted for inflation" does that mean titancic made less than 600, i mean when it came out tickets were like 7.50 they are 8.50 now

Wow...I saw the Dark Knight opening weekend and it was really good, but I am surprised that Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants came in at number 4. I saw it last night and I thought it was a good movie, it's crazy it didn't do better than that...I'm glad Titanic is still the highest grossing movie, to me it's a classic.

Batman is way better than Titanic, in my opinion.
