Jessica Biel Shows Swank How It’s Done

Someone’s getting fired today! Jessica Biel may have looked stunning at Monday night’s Golden Globe Awards, but she inadvertently committed a crime of fashion by showing up in the same dress Hilary Swank wore to Vanity Fair's Oscar party in 2004.

"I loved this dress and felt great in it," Biel said in a statement Tuesday, according to USA Today. "It is unfortunate that I was told by Valentino no one had ever worn the gown before, but I think Hilary has amazing style, and I'm flattered we share the same taste."

Valentino also issued a statement, but didn’t specifically address the Biel mix-up: "Valentino dresses are timeless, and each woman brings to them her own interpretation. Two beautiful actresses can be different and great even in the same dress."

So who’s to blame? Ultimately, it's the responsibility of Biel's stylist and Valentino's public-relations team to research gowns to be sure they haven't been worn to high-profile events before, says Treena Lombardo, fashion market director at W magazine. "But in the harriedness of the season, people are just doing their best with a lot of gowns flying in and out of hotel rooms."

The sartorial goof brings to mind last year’s fashion faux pas in which Reese Witherspoon was caught in a "vintage" Chanel number that had been worn by Kirsten Dunst in 2003.

Come on- if your not on this site to be a critic then why bother being here? I think Hillary looks akward and uncomfortable- perhaps the way she is standing, but the top isn't well fitted and its unflattering to her chest. Jessica's looks much better and sexy. Hillary manages to make it look like on old lady dress.

While they are both beautiful in the dress, Hilary looks better because of her build. Jessicas' shoulders look huge and she looks a bit thick in the upper body. This dress needed someone with smaller bustline, smaller waist and square shoulders...all of which Hilary has...Jessica looks beautiful, but I think she should have worn that dress that Posh BEckham had on the other night..the blue with the beaded top...that would have been a knock out on her

I really don't think it matters if the dress was worn twice! On who looks better, the color of Jessica's dress is nicer. However, it looks a bit tight in the stomach area, maybe they should have tailored it a bit better. So Jessica's wearing a nicer color, but Hilary's wearing a nicer fit. It evens out!

Yeah well, don't forget about how Natalie Portman showed up to the Golden Globes last year in a "vintage" dress (I think it was a Chanel as well) that was worn by Kirsten Dunst in Spiderman II. I don't particularly care that a dress is re-worn (and few people pay such close attention) but I know THEY do.

Jessica took the dress to a whole new level. Hot Hot Hot Dont think for a minute this was a mistake by Valentinos people. I didnt even know who the dress was by until I read this article. Now I do. Same with that witherspoon girls last yr. It doesnt matter to me. Jessica looks amazing. I want to have her bod instead of mine.

Hey, I'm on this site to read about celeb gossip, see celeb style, and what not... so for those people who are like, "Oh my geesh, there are so mnay more important things going on in this world..." and are on her complaining about US posting an article about Hilary Swank and Jessica Beal wearing the same dress, don't act like you are on here to read about world peace. Go over to cnn.com or something! By the way, I think that Jessica Biel wore it best, and Hilary Swank is too skinny and veiny.

We can all say that we could care less about who wore what at what event .... but the truth of the matter is that we are all still looking at these pictures and reading the stories! If we honestly didn't care, then we'd stop reading the articles. That is why US and other sources continue to post "trivial" things, because it SELLS. They got what they wanted, all of us on their website, commenting on their picture. :)

Who cares if she wore the same dress someone else did years ago. They both look fabulous in it. I dont know why people would get mad. Personally I could care less if someone showed up in the same clothes, shoes, hairstyle and jewelry as I did. Aren't there more important things to worry about?

I have to say that Jessica's comments on the the situation were very mature and classy. She could have gotten mad, turned into a diva and went off like some celebs would, but she handled it very well. They both look nice in the dress.

Melinda: I agree. Why is it so scandalous when two celebrities wear the same gown on the red carpet? Wearing a dress more than once only shows it's truly admired by the wearer. The designer should be pleased, not outraged. The fashion and entertainment industries really need to get some perspective here. Both women look stunning.
