What shocks me is that JE stated that EE was "furious" when he told her about the affair back in 2006. (he met Hunter in Feb 06, hired her in June 06 and she was fired in Dec of 06.) The incurable cancer returned in 2007. Yet in 2008 Hunter gives birth to a child. That child is brought to a hotel in California in July 08, checked into 2 rooms reserved under someone elses name ( Edwards campaign person) and John Edwards is spotted sneaking into the room, then chased by a reporter into a public restroom, and holds the door shut until hotel security arrives to escort him out....

Now if you were Elizabeth, and you found out in 2006 (Not TOLD ABOUT IT! Pahlease! She found out about the affair and every woman here knows it. A man will NEVER just fess up to that. NEVER.) She furiously tells the schmuck to "get rid of her" so he releases Hunter from his campaign.Elizabeth then goes on with her life and figures it was a blip on the radar screen. A moment of selfishness from the man she's been married to for 30 years.

THEN a year and a half later, the Enquirer breaks the story about John and Hunter meeting at 2am in the hotel room, and releases pictures of John holding the baby.

My God! I'm with one of the other posters who suggested not passing judgement on Elizabeth. For I as well was willing to forgive, if counseling was followed. But I don't know many women who can forget. Then again, I also don't know many women who have been advised that they cannot be cured, and are in fact, expected to be dead within a couple of years. I guess when you're looking at the last couple years of your life. And have spent the last 30 with one person ( + the kids) you accept that you aren't going to be around. And decide to just keep living your life the only way you know.

Elizabeth can at least pass on knowing that the world felt for her, and have in turn labeled him a worthless man.

shame on us magazine for putting out this really old story and passing it off as news. i would feel more sorry for elizabeth if she hadn't been living so well off of this unscrupulous lawyer. i do feel sorry for the kids though. thank god he is not going to be our president.

Elizabeth is in denial about this situation with her husband. This is a shock to her system. The emotions of battling cancer and the cancer therapies that she must be on have a devastating effect on her. If she were a healthy woman in all respects, husband would be history. She is doing what she has to to survive and take care of her children.

I just don't see how any married woman could stay with their husband even after he cheats. If he didn't think about you then while he did it, what makes you think he cares about you now? I wouldn't want to stay in that kind of relationship because it's really not worth getting hurt all over again..there are too many nice women out there who get dogged by their husbands/boyfriends and still stay with them. That is why they have low-self esteem...not saying you do...but, I just couldn't deal with it at all. Too many men have temptations all over again after they do it the 1st time. The point, Krissy Snow, is that John and Elizabeth already dealt with it years ago (and yes, 2006 IS in fact "years ago") so she doesn't really see the point of rehashing that emotional wound for public consumption. I mean the LAST thing a wife who was cheated on wants is for the whole world to be talking about it (who wants the marital scrutiny?) ESPECIALLY at the expense of more important issues.

Besides, as mentioned before Elizabeth has already decided to forgive John. Since this is her PERSONAL decision, there is no use for US holding a grudge if SHE decided not to. If she can find the strength to forgive, then I know I can.

I'm so disappointed. I love the Edwards family. It really bothers me John would cheat on Elizabeth like that. I guess there is no such thing as a perfect family. He's damn lucky she stayed with him after the affair. Elizabeth is a super strong woman. I would have told him to go get f-ed.

After that classy statement from Liz, I can say that maybe John Edwards DOESN'T deserve her. That being said, if Elizabeth can forgive him (for an affair that happened YEARS ago, which they already talked about mind you) then so can I.

Besides, I think her disapointment at THIS point is more in regard to the media sensationalizing old news and causing her and her family to relive it again at a time when we have SO many problems as a country that we need to talk about instead.

Tiger eyes: I am a married woman and sadly what you described on your post is partly true. The poor wife is stuck at home taking care of the kids, housework, cooking and laundry not to mention she may also have a career of her own, while he lavishes a mistress with jewlery, flowers and fancy dinners. The mistress has all his attention and affection while the wife is getting mundane chitchat and the most affection she is getting from him is seeing the back of his head after he finally decides to drag himself home at the end of the night. BUT.. Karma is a beach!!! Do you really think that a man who will cheat on his wife will actually stay faithful to a mistress if he actually divorces her and marries you? There was a time in his life when his wife WAS the original beauty that he wined and dined and if he WERE to leave her and marry the mistress EVENTUALLY SHE'LL end up in the same situation that his first wife was in. Men like that aren't fooling anyone but themselves.

Actually, the National Enquirer broke the story months ago. The mainstream media sat on it as long as the could to "protect" a potential VP candidate. Fox News and the others pushed it because the mainstream media was ignoring it.

First of all. I'm far from perfect. Second, material goods are of no value when it comes to your soul. I try to follow what God tells me to do. I make mistakes and I know that if I ask for forgiveness, I am forgiven. But, regardless of your "material" goods, we will all have to give an account for the lives we have lived. Good and Bad. The saddest thing is that some don't know what is at stake. We aren't promised one day here on earth. Some people will never be "saved" or ever know "salvation". I wish I could share that feeling with you. There is nothing like it.

For those who think people are doomed to repeat their actions, they too can be "born again" into a new life. I have been and I wish you all could feel the joy and peace I feel.

Elizabeth Edwards will have to follow what God leads her to do. She will either have the strength to forgive or the courage to leave. Whatever happens, happens. I just pray that she is "saved" given her incurable cancer diagnosis and that her soul is at peace.
